Birds Who Came to My Balcony Ate Only Tasty Sunflower Seeds
They taught me something important
There is a big tree in front of my balcony. Lots of birds have built their nests inside of it. Every morning, I wake up in the chorus of those lovely creatures.
One day, in the afternoon, a cute bird landed on my balcony. It seemed to get lost. But the little one paused on the railing just for a few seconds. Before I was able to take a picture, it has already flown into the big tree and disappeared.
How many birds are living in the tree? Are they all the same kind? What do they eat? A series of questions jumped into my mind. I wished some of them would come to visit me again.
I googled and found out what birds usually eat, then ordered natural sunflower seeds online. Days have passed, the delivery was still stuck on its way. I couldn’t wait anymore, so I dropped some roasted and tasteful sunflower seeds which were my favorite snack, on the ground of the balcony.
It took a few days until the first birds were lured to my balcony. On a sunny day, two white-headed bulbuls flew in one after the other. They chatted and hesitated on the railing for a while before they decided to go for the food.
From that day on, my balcony became lively. Birds flew in and out frequently. Sometimes they fought each other. But in general, they all enjoyed the roasted and tasteful food.
Finally, the natural sunflower seeds that I ordered arrived. I got very excited and put them on the balcony immediately. To my surprise, no birds came again.
I googled once more. It is said, birds will remember the taste if they ate flavored food. Seemed these clever creatures already tried the new seeds secretly and found out they were not the same one that they ever got. This unflavored food no longer aroused their appetite.
This reminded me of what happened to my son. When he was a baby, he liked most the food that I gave him. After he was fed tasty dishes, he became picky.
Tasty food is not necessarily healthy, while unflavored one is usually good for the body.
But how can I blame the birds for becoming picky? I was the one who made them so.
If I did care about these birds, I should only have fed them with natural seeds. But I just wanted to play with them. I took pictures, made videos, and put them on social media to get more views. I had fun. I didn’t really care about them.
Now, those little birds abandon me. With this behavior, they enlightened me:
If you don’t really care for others, but just want to use them, then others will return you in the same way.
Do you feed birds too? What is your purpose when you do this?
