Recently an article came across the internet which contained a list put out by Bloomberg and Wikipedia listing the ten richest people currently in the United States. These billionaires are the truly super rich who control much of the world’s wealth.

The richest was no surprise. Jeff Bezos of Amazon heads the list which said that he had $114 billion at age 55, but other lists say he has $170 billion. The last on this particular list of ten was the former wife of Jeff Bezos with $36 billion which she received in a divorce settlement. That, along with the net worth of Jeff Bezos, has reportedly grown considerably with the uptick in sales on Amazon since the coronavirus pandemic started. The figures are staggering.

The list also includes Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, of course. They are people who have long been listed as the richest or among the richest people in the United States and the world. Others who became billionaires as founders of tech companies included: Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Sergay Brin, and Steve Balmer.

A few people had inherited their money such as three Waltons who received their money from the Walmart empire. Michael Bloomberg and Charles Koch were listed as having earned their money, and Julia Koch had inherited her billions.

There is such an absolutely huge amount of money controlled by a relatively small group of people.

Bill Gates was once interviewed when he became the richest person in the world after he had been the second richest the previous year. He was asked why or how that happened. He said he guessed it was because he hadn’t given away enough money. The super wealthy do give away a lot of money, but they could give away so much more to those who are in need.

Who personally needs so many billions of dollars? It must be at least partially a matter of power, control, and greed. They definitely have much more than they will ever need.

A billionaire currently resides in the White House. He has put several of his billionaire friends into high government positions. They not only control billions of dollars, but they are controlling other aspects of people’s lives as well.

A million dollars seems out of reach for most people, and yet there are hundreds of millionaires being created on a regular basis. There are millions of people with over a million dollars each living in the United States. Some have hundreds of millions. That also is a LOT of money that they are controlling.

Money is not everything, and money does not buy happiness. It can, however, provide a certain amount of freedom in life — including the opportunity to truly help others. Money can help achieve happiness.

There are poor among us. Everyday you can see homeless people or the less fortunate begging on the streets just for a few dollars or change to buy food or other items. Unfortunately, they sometimes spend what money they have on tobacco, alcohol, or drugs. Everyone needs money in some shape and form. Most earn what money they have, but some people beg for it. Unless someone can and will help them out of a desperate situation, life will continue to be difficult. Pinching pennies is not that much fun.

While a small number of people control a huge amount of the world’s wealth, there is room for people to carve out a comfortable living for themselves. It behooves all of us, whether rich or poor, to reach out to those less fortunate. Rich people and all of us could be the reason to bring change and improvement to someone’s life. This is a wonderful world. Whether we are rich or not, we can enjoy life and help others to enjoy life as well.
