BikoStar, Manna, and Mfundo — The New Music Star!
This morning I stumbled upon one of the best music performances I have ever seen!
How Deep Is Your Love (Bee Gees), performed by BikoStar, Manna, and Mfundo!
I am a big fan of the Bee Gees. In fact, I was just listening to their music this past weekend and reminiscing about the group’s Saturday Night Fever album.
However, I was not ready for this — to see three kids give a Grammy performance of my favorite song while sitting casually in their living room!
Blown away by the group’s stunning cover, I decided to do a little research on the web. I was even more surprised to learn that BikoStar (16), Manna (13), and Mfundo (8) is a South African musical group from Johannesburg. They’re becoming a global sensation with their spectacular covers of popular American songs.
I have spent some time in Johannesburg and can attest to the incredible musical talents in that part of the world. However, this trio is on another level!
The Trio Now, BikoStar is the lead singer; Manna is the guitarist and singer, as well; and, Mfundo (aka TauLion) is the dancer/entertainer or the kid that is in the background keeping the beat.
BitoStar is just that! She is a Star! Her voice is deeply soulful and yet angelic and fluid. She can sing anything! One minute she is at the bottom of her range; and suddenly, she is high in the falsetto stratosphere, painting a sonic picture of heaven!
Manna is truly gifted. His guitar performances are so lucid and amazing; that one can easily forget that he is just a child.
And, Mfundo! What can I say? In the video, he’s the one dancing/playing in the background, occasionally adding a vocal line to the performance. At first, I thought he was just a child interrupting the performance, only to find out later in the video that he was part of the group! He is actually the “entertainer/disrupter” extraordinaire! Nice surprise!
Keeping The Music Tradition Incredibly talented, BikoStar, Manna, and Mfundo hail from a family of legendary musicians — the Nokwe! They represent the 6th generation of Nokwe whose lives are dedicated to preserving ancestral music! And, music seems to pour out of their souls effortlessly.
