Bible Study Guide Day 011: Job 29–31
Does he not see my ways and count my every step?
Job 31:4
Job 29
Job’s Final Defense
In this chapter, Job continues his defense against his friends’ accusations.
He starts by reflecting on the blessings he had previously enjoyed from God, describing them as a time when God’s lamp shone on his head and He was with him through every step.
Throughout his speech, Job emphasizes his righteousness and integrity, stating that he had always been just and fair in his dealings with others.
He also recalls how he used to help the poor, the fatherless, and the widows, and how he was respected and honored by all.
Job 30
In this chapter, Job contrasts his previous blessings with his current state of suffering and affliction.
He describes how he has become a laughingstock to the younger generation, who now mock him and treat him with contempt.
Job also shares his anguish at being abandoned by God, saying He turned against him and allowed him to suffer greatly.
Despite his innocence, Job is now covered in skin diseases, dressed in rags, and forced to live in a state of constant mourning.
Job 31
In this final chapter of Job’s defense, he declares his innocence and asks God to hear his plea.
Job makes a series of oaths, swearing that he has not committed any sins such as adultery, injustice, or mistreatment of others.
He also denies being greedy or coveting what belongs to others, stating that he had always been content with what God had given him.
Job concludes his defense by appealing to God for mercy and justice, asking Him to vindicate him and reveal the reason for his suffering.
