Beyond the Shadows: Embracing the Chilling Thrills of Horror Films
A Journey into fear, redemption, and personal strength in the cinematic Realm
“It really scares me!” I love saying that when I’m watching a scary movie. I used to not like these kinds of movies at all, but then I discovered something special about them.
Unlike other types of movies, scary ones let me escape from reality. The things that happen in these movies are so strange that it’s hard to connect them to real life — unless, of course, you live in a haunted house. That’s why I think these movies give me a break from the tough parts of life.
Even though the stories in these films aren’t real, they still make people forget about their everyday worries.
Lilly Chiaro said, “The movie itself isn’t real, but the uneasiness that forms from watching these films will distract people from the anxiety that they have in their daily life about real things.”
In this article, I want to talk about why watching scary movies can be good based on my own experiences.
1. Getting Away from Reality: Scary movies are different because they’re not like real life. People know the things in the movie aren’t true, so it’s hard to connect them to their own lives — unless they live in a haunted house. That’s why these movies give a short break from regular life.
2. Learning About Good and Bad: Most scary movies have messages about demons, devils, angels, and the difference between good and bad. They show us what not to do or how not to behave. In “The Conjuring,” for example, the main characters deal with a demon using love and understanding instead of hatred. This teaches us that even bad things can change.
Jodie Francis said, “So, when it comes to the benefits of watching horror movies, we’re saying that they can act as a cautionary tale for you to learn from.”
3. Facing Our Fears: Scary movies help us confront our fears. We have to finish watching the movie to understand why there’s a demon or something scary. This means we have to deal with our fears until the end of the movie. When we can handle the fears from the movies, we get better at facing our own fears in real life.
“Since the subjects, situations, and scenarios are so close to our real-life fears, it helps us develop a thicker skin to face our fears better in reality.” — Indiatimes
Sometimes, we need to close our eyes during the scary parts of the movie to get through it. It doesn’t mean we’re scared or weak — it’s just a way to protect ourselves while facing our fears. So, it’s okay to do that. No need to feel guilty; be proud!
“The scarier the movie feels real, the more we can understand the characters. This can make it feel scarier because it could be real! This can help you face your fears in real life.” — Jodie Francis
