Beyond the Screen: Embracing Innovation with Humane’s AI Pin
Last week, I was impressed by the announcement of a new device called the Humane AI pin, a stand-alone smart device set to replace smartphones. It’s a disruptive proposal, and innovation is what drives its leaders.

What impressed me the most about this announcement was the vision of the Company founder, Irman Chaundrhi, who is trying to create technology that isn’t detrimental to the consumer but enhances the human experience.
Irman’s vision and project embody an ambitious and bold statement against the pervasive issue of social media and smartphone addiction, addressing a critical problem of our time.
The device has no screen display. It features a camera and a laser to interact with its OS called “Cosmos,” powered by AI and a set of programs to enhance your daily experience.
Irman found an excellent opportunity to innovate in a market that hasn’t changed in the past ten years. He and his partner, Bethany Bongiorno, both former Apple employees involved in the development of the iPhone, are examples of how you can find opportunities to change the world and innovate to create something that will improve our lives.
The seed of innovation: an Idea
Everything starts with a thought, with an idea. Innovation is no exception. When you want to create something that changes your life, you should probably start thinking about how to improve other’s lives.
Innovation is the art of introducing new methods or ideas that will change something. Every innovative business or project starts with an idea that evolves into a vision. And this vision is the core that will define the project’s direction.
That’s why innovation is driven by the vision that you can build something to improve people’s lives. And the idea will only come from a place of opportunity.
Irman saw the opportunity to improve technology consumers’ lives with a product that enhances their experience without the harm of dependency or addiction. His vision started with the idea of improving people’s lifestyles using new technology, resulting in an innovative project.
Becoming a Visionary
People with vision have three things in common.
First, they don’t see problems; they see opportunities. To become a visionary, you need a growth mindset driven by a positive attitude toward your experience and the ability to recognize a situation where you can learn and grow your knowledge and awareness.
Second, you need to question your beliefs and the way everything works. If you accept everything as it is, you won’t have the vision to create something innovative and understand how to change things.
Develop your criteria and ask yourself questions to understand how things work, study and learn about those questions, and then try to answer them yourself.
Finally, a visionary always looks at the bigger picture. You need an integral vision of society and the curiosity to connect the dots no one does.
When most people worry about tomorrow or a year ahead, you are excited thinking about the decades, even more years forward, that you’ll spend learning and creating.
As a visionary, you understand life as a long-run game.
Most people will criticize Irman’s new project because they lack the vision to understand this is only the beginning of everything he wants to build. They feel comfortable with their current lifestyles and don’t want a change.
The same thing happened with the iPhone when it was released. Many cellphone users rejected the idea of texting through a touchscreen because they liked their Blackberry and Nokia keyboards.
We all know what happened next.
Accept the Rejection and Become a Leader
The most challenging part of innovation is convincing people that your vision will be positive for them. That your change is real and will improve their life experience.
As I mentioned before, people don’t like change. They want to feel comfortable in their idea of reality, and if you challenge that idea, the first instinctive reaction is rejection.
When that happens, you have a new challenge to communicate your vision — not trying to impose it but sharing it so people can freely choose what they want.
If your idea came from an opportunity you saw to solve a problem, your vision will be easier to communicate. Eventually, you’ll find people with the same passion for your views, and they will follow you to create the reality you see.
You can’t build something innovative alone. You need to become a leader with your values, ideals, and actions and set an example for those who want to follow you.
Steve Jobs was a leader, and his vision attracted people like Irman and Bethany to work towards innovative technology like the iPhone and Apple Watch. Now, they both decided it was time for them to share a new vision and become new leaders.
Embrace Innovation and Create the Future
Innovation and change are not options. They are principles that rule evolution and creativity in our society. The only constant thing is change.
Irman’s vision is undoubtedly disruptive and seeks to solve a big issue we all know is affecting us negatively. His innovative project inspires us to remember that change starts with the opportunity to improve our lives.
If you embrace innovative thinking to find opportunities and ask the right questions, you’ll become a creator of our future by finding the answers everyone needs.
It takes courage, personality, and character to create innovative projects that drive change to create a new future. But if you enjoy being in the ring instead of watching the fight from the stands, it’s a rewarding life experience.
