Beware, The Wisp
Don’t get caught, trespassing the woods of Kunlash
The forests of Kunlash were a desolate hunting grounds for spirits and wraiths. But there was something much more savage lurking around those words — it was rather an ethereal, a spirit that roams around with a wrathful bloodlust for hunters, who trespass and kill the creatures that sought sanctuary in the forest. This mythical beast was none other than “The Wisp.”
The small village called Nijkaar, that was close to the forests of Kunlash sung the tales of “The Wisp,” a spirit that would steal the animals from the farms, perhaps the ones that were either diseased or at the verge of dying. The Wisp was known to have mythical powers that were used to heal these creatures.
It would then carry them onwards into the forests of Kunlash — a deep sanctuary of all creatures of nature, and The Wisp as their guardian. No one knew what were the origins of The Wisp. Some say it came from above through blistering light causing a magnificent chasm in the sky during the solstice.
Others believed that it was the spirit of a fabled King, who loved and was loved by the sylphs and was bestowed by reincarnation when he died defending the forest from other kingdoms. The King was fond of the forest, he grew up in it, perhaps he guards the forest even in his death.
There was another dark mystery tale wrapped around The Wisp by the travelers who tread through those forests, of seeing corpses mauled and ravaged into the trees as if they were used as a sacrifice in a ritual.
The rumor was that witches were there a long time ago who sacrificed humans to please their gods, and thus The Wisp was a demon conjured from another realm to fulfill the wishes of the witches, but killed them as soon as he was brought into this world, and the corpses of witches were the ones they saw engraved in the trees, as a reminder to not mess with The Wisp.
There was a nightmarish mystery, that most people feared about The Wisp, and thus there were bounties carried out: for whoever shall slay or capture The Wisp would be awarded treasures beyond their wildest dreams.
This made the forests of Kunlash a hunting ground — not for the zealots that were marching towards the forest to earn bounty, but for The Wisp to ravage upon the people who would come to harm the sanctuary deep within the forest.
Every now and then, a band of adventurers would waltz into the forest, would probably never return but either in shreds or pieces having horrible tales of monsters that crushed their band like a bunch of twigs. They would say there would be a shadow cloud that would cover everyone — a fog that would eat everyone alive until silence would remain.
Soon these tales would be carried from one survivor to another, and the horrifying tales of Kunlash would reach the shore, and to other kingdoms that felt threatened by the sheer terrifying force of the forest. But they kept to themselves, not wanting to meddle in the Kingdom of Kunlash’s Affairs; yet they sent their band of mercenaries in secret to get their hands on the treasures and beasts of the forest.
And thus, the mass adventure of the forests of Kunlash was started… as more and more people knew about it — becoming a Legend that people would test themselves and their strength and resolve only to realize that they threw away the only chance they had at life or did they!?
Only fate might decide, perhaps there is more to The Wisp, we do not know, and the forests of Kunlash. The only way we could learn that truth is by venturing into it.
So will you make that journey? By venturing into the woods of no return for treasures and truth!
