Betty’s Funeral
Short Story Day Two 150 words
“You can’t go to that funeral. What will people think?”
“Look Jodie, I’ve been married to the Marsh Spring Chief of Police for forty years. You know why? That woman in the casket kept all the marriages together in this small town.”
“She was the town slut. How can you say that?”
“None of the men who strayed went very far. They worshiped beautiful, very loose Betty. I pretended not to know, but he always came home happy after.
Doc took care of her so no SD problems. She was the perfect distraction.
“I see.”
“No you don’t. She was a listener, a lucky charm, and a seductive muse. She grew old, but never lost her magic. She kept everyone’s secrets that she is carrying to her grave.”
“Wow what a turnout. See even the pastor is sad.”
“Rest in Peace Betty.”
