Welcome to the ‘Better Writers’ Pub on Medium

The promise is simple: to help you write better, earn better, and overall, wind up a better person and writer.

Better Writers (BW) is now Condensed. If you missed the short story, here’s it.

I’ve always been fascinated with Medium pubs: how they work, how they serve writers here, and ultimately, the bigger picture they ensure in the grand scheme of things in the Medium ecosystem.

Because of this fascination, I have a fair number of my stories, published through pubs.

The new audience, the new space, and overall, the new home that gives to my work anytime is something I’ve never been able to get over.

But, there’s a problem: I’m yet to find a publication dedicated exclusively to stories about becoming a better writer, earning better, and overall, becoming a better person — one who also writes, treating subjects from finances to leisure matters, as long as they relate to writers or the writing reality.

The Idea

I’ve always loved the idea of creating things from nothing, especially things I search for and for some strange reason, can’t find.

Getting a pub that focuses exclusively on writers and their needs — holistically, was one of such challenges I faced here on Medium.

Not a big deal — but for someone who loves things done to precision, it mattered, so, here we are: I decided to launch Better Writers, a pub I sincerely believe will fill that void.

Stories Accepted

I’m looking forward to start publishing your stories, right away.

However, the pub is centered around and meant to serve the modern writer, especially one interested in bettering his writing craft and making a nice, good living by the side.

Because of this, only stories related to writing (or writers) will be accepted and published.

It does not matter which reality of writing you’ve chosen to treat: making money, writing better, living better, self-development, etc, provided it is linked to either writing or writers, we’ll be good with it.

Submission Guidelines

• All stories sent in must be original — and must not have been published anywhere else, not even here on Medium.
• Stories sent in should be centered around the reality of writing and becoming a better writer: from making money, personal development, and leisure — but all with a bias towards writers, and the reality of writing. This is very important.
• Stories sent in must be properly formatted with no typos, should contain at least 3 headers, and should be a minimum of 600 words.
• Photos are important — and every piece sent in should bear at least, one.
• Importantly, all stories must conform to Medium rules and must, in addition, be eligible to earn via the Medium Partner Program.

Timelines

I love it when a pub publishes my story in a timely manner. That said, all stories received will be published within the first twenty-four hours of receipt, provided there’s nothing to fix with the story.

If there’s something to sort out: photos, attribution, etc, this time would be deemed to have started counting when all these have been fixed and the writer communicates this fact to the pub.

An exception will happen when the pub already has published more than two entries for the day or has already scheduled that number for the time period.

If the above is the case, an editor will get back to the writer, within twenty-four hours and indicate when such a story will be published.

All times indicated are inclusive of regular weekends and public holidays.

Editor Input

While any story shared here remains 100% the property of the original writer, editors for BW will, from time to time, make minor amends to stories before publishing the same: addition of links, removal of some lines, general formatting, etc.

Please, take note of this before sending in your story.

AI Policy

AI-assisted writing, while okay in some instances, isn’t okay for a pub that is made up of writers and seeks to serve their interests.

Accordingly, All AI-assisted stories will be rejected — even if AI only assisted in part.

AI-assisted photos, videos, and graphics are welcomed, however.

Editors and Writers Welcome

Now, this is the super interesting part: no one can run a pub alone.

To make BW the desired writing community for writers, we need writers and importantly, volunteer editors.

If you’re interested in joining in as a writer, leave me a comment — including a link to your Medium username and I’ll add you up.

For editors, ideal members should be writers who have prior editing experience.

However, if you’re willing to be patient with others while holding them by the hand and ready to help them become their best, you’re welcome: leave a comment and I’ll gladly have you onboard.

Wrap Up

This pub exists to help writers write better, earn better, and live better; it aims at making writers better, all round.

To achieve this, stories around the theme are welcomed; provided such stories have monetization enabled, are written by humans, and conform to Medium rules.

The timeline for publication is twenty-four hours; however, if a story will take longer than that, an editor will be in communication, explaining why and importantly, giving you an exact date when your story will go live.
