Best Lessons I Learned From My Mother

Why am I writing this article because I don’t want to sing jingles of her praise after she dies? I want to make sure that I count her blessings while she is alive.

Mother Child Painting by Author

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ― Washington Irving

My mother is not dead. She is perfectly fine and healthy. She is my best friend. Why am I writing this article because I don’t want to sing jingles of her praise after her death. I want to make sure that I count her blessings while she is alive. She has faced so many trials on her own and always emerged as a winner in my eyes. She is my strength, courage, and life. I hope my mother never fails to amaze me ever.

There are many things that I have learned from my mother from time to time, but I am going to share the four best lessons I took from her, and those stayed with me forever.

Educate Yourself

My mother is not an educated person. She doesn’t have any degree. But she has been wise and brave all her life and in her decisions. She always taught me the importance of education and instilled this idea of being a financially independent woman since birth. I am thankful to her and the sacrifices she has made for me. I am a double master's in Information Technology, Computer Applications, and Marketing. I am proud of myself because I paid heed to my mother’s advice.

Be Courageous and True To Your Heart

My mother has been a courageous woman. She has dealt with my father’s domestic violence issues for ages. I cannot beat her in this experience. When I faced this shit in my marriage, I walked out of it.

I am still proud of my mother because she was young and didn’t know how to get out of a domestic violence marriage. I have no wrath for her in my eyes and heart. She didn’t get the same support, care, and financial help like me. I was more than enough to support myself hence I came out of it courageously staying true to my heart. I wish I was her friend or something when I wasn’t even born to encourage her to leave my father.

Be Humble and Able to Help Others Always

I have learned the language of gratitude and humility from my mother. Even though I was earning well, she always taught me to share my earnings with people who had nothing. I am still doing the same with whatever earnings I get in my kitty I donate.

I don’t exaggerate about it, but I certainly believe one should do that where people post innumerable pictures of fake emotions on social media, we must preach something that comes out of our heart and soul. I will always be thankful to my mother for raising me with the right principles and learnings. I won’t ever stop helping others because when I needed it there was nobody. I don’t want others to ever feel that way in life.

Never Give Up On Your Passion

The year 2020 was a blessing for me. I came on the medium and started writing consistently. I have been a blogger for more than 16 years but last year I started writing for real. I faced my challenges, disappointments, and flaws. I learned to share them with you all. This idea was given to me by my mother.

There is not even a single day when she doesn’t forget to ask me “Did you write today?” She doesn’t understand what I write as she cannot read English, but I tell her by translating in the Hindi Language what all I am writing, and she is proud of me. It is because of her I am taking my sketch work seriously too. She believes I am truly a blessed artist. What else do I want more in life?

Final Words

I know we all are busy in life. We tend to follow the same trap of monotonous routine but take out time in letting your favorite person know that you love them.

I love my mother a lot and this I realized after going through many hardships in life. As this is a women’s month, I didn’t want to miss this opportunity of making my mother feel special when she has been willingly there for me. I don’t want to write a book on her achievements once she is gone. I would rather pen it down now when she can get it read from me while she is alive.

“I was always an unusual girl. My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean.” ― Lana Del Rey
