Best Free App to ACTUALLY Learn a New Language
Speaking class with a teacher for free — I bet you haven’t used it
Most of us at one point have downloaded a language app with the idea that we will conquer a new language once and for all.
We get on a streak of a few days, but then motivation disappears. We soon realize we are just learning a few words with no context and pointless sentences we will never use.
Then motivation goes and we end up giving up.
Even when you are able to persevere, get about 6 weeks in and you know how to say I have a big dog, even when you don’t or I am from Germany, even when you’re not.
In steps a new app that takes a different approach to language learning.
The name of the app is Language Transfer. A relatively unheard-of free app I found that I don’t hear anyone else talking about.
I started following the Spanish program, and it has been a huge help.
Language Transfer helps you learn a language more naturally, not memorizing pointless phrases like how to say you are a boy.
The class consists of a teacher, teaching a student in a 1-to-1 setting. You are encouraged in real-time to complete the conversion of the student. Basically, you are getting a private lesson with a tutor for free. This would cost a small fortune if you were paying for classes yourself.
The sole focus is learning through conversation, which is the most important aspect of any language. No point in learning loads of vocabulary on Duolingo but then not being able to speak a word when a native speaker asks you a question.
The main thing I like about Language Transfer is you learn loads of useful words and sentences from lesson one.
It helps you use English words that you already know and gives you patterns to apply to Spanish. Spanish originates from Latin. Many of these words are also used in English.
We can convert these words from English to Spanish — For example, any English words that end in ‘al’ in English come from Spanish.
Normal, animal, natural, legal, metal, etc. Although pronunciation is slightly different, knowing this rule gives you an arsenal of words to add to your Spain vocab list.
Words ending in ‘ant’ and ‘ent’ in English can also be converted to Spain easily by adding an ‘e’ on the end. For example, important = importante different = differente. constant= constant.
Knowing simple rules like this drastically speeds up the language learning process.
Biggest limitations of the app
Big fan of this app. The only downside is that it only has a limited amount of languages, so may not cover the language you are learning.
Below are the following languages it currently has available.

I imagine once this gets more popular, they will add more. I can’t see why people won’t continue to use it. Anyone I have recommended it to has loved it. Try it out for yourself and let us know what you think.
