Best Articles Of The Month - February Edition

This month I’m doing something new, I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite articles that I’ve found on medium this month and discussing them with you guys.
There’s a lot of good articles on medium so it’s hard to pick just a few of them, but these three are the most interesting, useful and thought provoking articles that I’ve be able to find for you guys.
1. Driving the Bus of the American Presidency - John Egelkrout
This article was very thought provoking and I found it to be very informative on the upcoming election.
This might be my favorite quote from the whole article.
“If you shudder at the idea of Joe Biden driving a bus full of children, is it any less scary that he has the codes to our nuclear arsenal? The same holds true for Donald Trump. If you can’t trust him to drive a school bus filled with children, why in the world would we want to trust him with the firepower of our military?”
I think it’s a very open minded question that a lot more people should ask themselves, I found the whole article to be pretty interesting as well it’s definitely worth checking out after this.
2. The BBC and the Sad Death of Establishment Journalism - Matthew
In this article he points out the biased perspective that is often associated with our mainstream news outlets. It’s a very interesting article and it’s coming from a great independent perspective.
There’s a lot of good quotes from the article, but I think this was the most informational and interesting.
“The basic problem lies in the gradual loss of the idea that truth is at the centre of journalism. Of course, this is not actually acknowledged because on the BBC you constantly see articles about “fact-checking” and “misinformation”, ideas that feign to make objective judgements. These reporters still believe in truth, but what they have not observed is that the truth is the truth, not what they happen to think about it.”
If you remember reading my article about the 4 principles of ethical journalism then you can see the problem with journalists conducting themselves like this.
3. My Mum Died Before I Was Born - Ross Derbyshire
This is the third and last article that I picked for this month. Unlike the other ones I can’t tell you why I picked it. I’m not sure what it was, it could’ve been the fact that it was so interesting or maybe it was the fact that it was such a personal perspective on life.
Here are two of my favorite quotes from the writing.
“I should not exist. Ross Derbyshire, should not be here, and yet here I am.”
“Ross Derbyshire the writer wouldn’t have existed, or maybe he would. Maybe he would be here telling you all about the time my mother’s best friend gifted her her very own dream.”
Either way I encourage everybody to checkout the article and give Ross a follow if you’ve made it this far in the article.
And as always I appreciate everybody’s support for reading through this far.
