Benefits of Writing for a Publication

How to get in touch with your audience on Medium

Medium will love you for writing and publishing, no matter how you do it, but there is a special preference for publications, such as Modern Leaders.

While they may show their gratitude in a more subtle way than the title image could indicate, their strategy goes towards supporting the publications. What that means with respect to the algorithm and hence, the visibility of your articles, is a bit unclear. But something it must mean.

But there are some real, material benefits for you to harvest when publishing through a publication.

If you have ever read an article to the end, you may have noticed that there are some additional articles suggested at the end. These have been picked by some algorithms of Medium but the general concept is that there will be two of yours and two others from the publication where the read article was published.

This, in its essence, means that you, as a reader, will be introduced to more articles of presumably the same kind, and in particular: one or two new writers.

You may want to click on one of these suggestions and thereby get to read another article; get to know another writer.

Now, try to imagine that someone this way is reading an article from Modern Leaders — and you are also publishing through Modern Leaders — there you have, at the end of their article there is a link to one of your articles and you have a potential new reader.

If this happens regularly, you could get quite many people guided into your universe of articles — people who may otherwise not even know that you existed.

Finally, you will appear on the publication’s About page — another link to you, and the more of those, the better.

Association with a topic

If the publication is focusing on a particular topic, your articles there will be considered by the readers to be about that topic. You will become known for writing about this topic — with Modern Leaders mentioned at the top of your article, nobody will doubt that this article fits into the Modern Leaders universe.

And that takes some of the stress out of trying to find a proper headline — no matter what you call your article, the reader will know that it is telling something related to the new way of seeing leadership and leaders.
