Beneath The Solstice Sky
Prompt: Write a poem that personifies a season.

The summer evening hints so carefully With the lightest touch of chilled fingertips Brushing a smile across my forehead To envelope me in breeze filled arms That provide a bounty of protection Yet still allow me to drink in the wild air Which nourishes the soul And soothes fevered brow
She lets nothing bad in Not threat or thought or thievery Or villainy of any sort That does purport to be other than it is Until having taken shape and advantage It would leave me breathless Stomach clenched And heart held tightly with shaking hands
She rains perfection on my upturned face And tears of joy spring unbidden to my eyes Like summer rain drops Or dew in spider’s web caught To sparkle iridescent like fairies wings Causing all who see them To stop and marvel As if hypnotized
And as the sky lightens ever so softly to rose gold Reluctant with sleep I draw to my feet Turning towards home As she moves ever westward To take her throne Made of star sapphires drawn from the heavens, Blue coral birthed by Salacia And moon glow
I take one last deep breath Filling myself with her perfume Which will have to last me until night returns And turning, trudge the path away from the fire filled dawn
