Bend Without Breaking When the Winds of Life Blow
How You Do It — Only You and The Universe Know
I love palm trees/plants because they remind me of my favorite space — the beach. Palm trees are also very strong — bending yet rarely breaking.

….unlike traditional trees, palm trees are not made of wood. “Instead, you’ll find a jumble of spongy tissue, scattered instead of arranged” inside a palm, geochemist Hope Jahren wrote in her autobiography “Lab Girl” (Vintage, 2016). [Are Trees Vegetarian?)
Take 5 With Fanae-5–5 things about palm trees that intrigue me
- There are many different types of palms — my favorite is the majestic palm It is a beautiful plant that is most often found along a riverbank. The leaves grow from the trunk tall and proud and then arch at the ends giving a look similar to a crown.
- In certain beliefs, palm trees represent triumph, peace, and plenty. Yes, I want to be triumphant over my trials in life by accepting the blessing of the lesson. Peace is a neverending goal, gaining, regaining, or simply maintaining. Abundance means different things to different people. A few relationships in which I feel safe to be my authentic self is abundance to me. Knowing the difference between needs and wants and being able to enjoy both in balance is abundance to me.
- The root system of the palm tree can be compared to our “roots” as human beings. The roots of the palm tree grow horizontally across the ground from a “root ball”. As the tree grows — the more these fibrous roots grow albeit horizontally. Our past is like the palm tree’s “root ball” while our future is like the fibrous horizontal roots. Inevitably some of the roots may die or break off due to exposure. Yet, additional roots are regenerated which help nourish and stabilize the tree. What fibrous roots have regenerated in our lives that nourished and stabilized us?
- Hurricane news clips that show palm trees bending without breaking are also fascinating. Without the fear of potential loss of life and/or property damage — it is almost a beautiful visual watching palm trees sway back and forth. It is almost like watching the palm tree dance — swaying to the music of the storm — extending its branches and leaves as a dancer extends their bodies.
- “….unlike traditional trees, palm trees are not made of wood. “Instead, you’ll find a jumble of spongy tissue, scattered instead of arranged” inside a palm, geochemist Hope Jahren wrote in her autobiography “Lab Girl” (Vintage, 2016). [Are Trees Vegetarian?)” My spirit is like the inside of the palm tree. What may appear as “disorganization” or “softness” to others has actually served me well. My spirit responds to the gentle breezes of love, support, respect, acknowledgment, etc. On the other hand, it is the same composition that helps me bend without breaking when the storms of life hit. Even when I feel broken I’m amazed when I find that I am actually standing despite the storm.
