JD’s reason for being unfaithful to Janet Jackson
I watched the 4part docuseries, Janet Jackson on Lifetime. I have always been a fan of hers since as far back as I can remember. There simply is no one that does what she does. Although the series wasn’t as revealing as I had hoped — she didn’t make any surprise confessions. We all know she has been super private throughout her career, so this shouldn’t be a surprise. If you are a fan the special is still definitely worth watching. There are so many parts I can talk about but maybe I will save that for another time, today I am going to talk about her relationship with Jermaine Dupri — AKA JD and why it ended.
It was for the dumbest reason.
He cheated, if you didn’t already know. Call me jaded or whatever but I’m not really surprised that he had other women. The most shocking part of the whole documentary, at least to me ( I did say there weren’t many shockers in this “tell-all”) wasn’t when he confessed to cheating. It was his reason that was so gross, that it got me looking at him differently now.
This is what he had this to say;
“One of the weird things about dating Janet is that dating Janet attracts other women. Girls wanted to talk to me more because I was dating her, which was really weird,”
I must say if I left the documentary with anything it was with an increased level of fondness and admiration for the superstar (Janet).
Over the course of the 4 episodes, we saw her in four of her major relationships. From the beginning to now. Within her relationships she appeared to be kind-hearted — loving — and fun. She is an artist and she believes in love. She had nothing bad to say about her former flames — something that shows real maturity. She spoke of all of them highly — only speaking about their flaws in a factual way — not maliciously.
After their split, there were a few rumors going around as to why they parted ways. The one I remember was a story of them partying, living it up with their celebrity friends and he had a few too many drinks. The word was he threw up on the pop star. Absolutely disgusting right? But still doesn’t sound like a valid reason for breaking up. I mean it almost was believable because a woman who has lived in class and luxury since childhood might not even know what human throw-up even looks like. But would she dump someone for throwing up on her? That sounded a little too boujee even for Janet. We never knew the real reason behind the breakup until now . . . As disgusting as human throw-up is, it’s not as disgusting as his reason for cheating.

Who used a woman’s celebrity to get more women, how low can you go? It’s funny the way life works. Once you get that stamp of approval others are now curious and want to know what’s so great about you. Janet’s stamp of approval made you more attractive to women and you came up off of her.
There is actually a term for this and it’s “mate choice copying.” It helps women save time finding someone by pursuing someone who has already been picked by another, and it exists in humans as well as animals.
Women find men who have been rated higher by other women more attractive. We copy each other's preferences and are influenced by the opinions of others. The more attractive the woman with the opinion is the more attractive the man becomes. I am sure that popularity — celebrity — wealth also increases the attractiveness of the man.
This woman was in love with you. In the past, she publicly said she wasn’t sure about having children of her own. With you, she wanted to have as many as you wanted.
“I never thought I would. I never really wanted any children because of the relationships that I was in. I never wanted to bring children into that. Being with Jermaine has really changed my life, and if he would like to adopt, then that’s something that I would like to do too.”
