Being Useful Is How You Know Your Purpose.

Being helpful brings your purpose to life.

“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill

How can you be useful to yourself?

How can you be useful to others around you?

Life has no meaning and we discover our purpose as we travel.

Being useful to others doesn’t mean doing things to others at the expense of hurting yourself. Being useful means helping yourself and others in the best possible way you can.

If you read good books, you are useful to yourself. If you find a way to teach people what you’ve read, you’re useful to others.

I was walking on a field one day and I saw a tall tree with few branches and little stems of leaves attached to the tree that didn’t sprout. I couldn’t help but wonder what the usefulness of that tree was.

It’s not like you can use it as shade when it’s raining or when it is sunny. Moreover, the tree doesn’t bear any fruit.

So what is its usefulness then? Nothing.

Understand that being helpful brings your purpose to life.

When you are useful to others, you are a giver and givers are other-focused. Givers by nature are driven by generosity, not speculation. They don’t weigh the pros and cons neither carry a balance sheet of good deeds. They seek to enrich the lives of the people they interact with writes Gustavo Razzetti.

The question is what are you DOING that’s making a difference?

To be useful, find ways to help people solve problems. Profer solutions, or give people experience.

Ralph Waldo Emerson connect the dots fully well when he said

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Look at the successful men of this world and you will see that one way or the other they are useful to the world at large.

Here’s why you should be useful:

You become happy with yourself.

When you make yourself useful to others, you not only feel good about yourself but you also become happy with yourself.

A friend of mine once called me up to assist him with his work, when I was able to profer a solution for him, he couldn’t stop thanking me and in all fairness, I was really happy with myself that I was able to be of help.

The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up.” ― Mark Twain

If you want to be happy, find someone to help to make happy.

You learn to work with boredom.

Life is all about running away from boredom.

I write about boredom a lot because boredom is what gave birth to my writing. When you are useful to yourself by working on your art, craft, or learning a skill, you don’t see boredom as a problem. Rather, you see it as an avenue to find something engage in or start a new challenge.

It is good to get bored once in a while but you shouldn’t allow it get to a stage that it ruins you. If you can’t find something to do for yourself, helping others is a way to make yourself useful or try volunteering work.

“Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart. Live for it, die for it, and you will find the happiness you had thought could never be yours.” — Dale Carnegie.

You never stop learning

Continuous improvement only happens through learning. And when you learn new things, you are making yourself useful. When you teach others what you’ve learnt, you are being useful to others.

To grow, learn, be happy, and to overcome boredom, you need to find ways to be useful to not only yourself but to others as well. Do this for long and you will know your life purpose.

Life has no meaning and we discover our purpose as we travel. Find your purpose in being helpful and enjoy giving without expecting anything in return.
