Being the Comfort

On comfort zones and nails

Comfort is something we all want to experience every day. We have all built our comfort zones to help assure that we can get that comfort we need. When stress and anxiety arise we head for those comfort zones as soon as we can.

Some of us try to find comfort within the stress and anxiety, thinking that is how we find success, but then when the stress and anxiety fall away then so does our comfort.

Some of us meditate or do yoga or walk or run. Some of us smoke pot or drink alcohol or take prescription drugs. Some of us binge watch TV or binge eat or play video games. Some of us bungee jump or watch sports or play sports. Some of us go to church or binge follow politics. Some of us write or paint or play music.

Kitty cats are masters at being comfortable. It is like their whole lives are one big comfort zone. Dogs not so much. Humans definitely not so much.

While humans may be near the bottom of the comfort hierarchy, they try harder than anyone to find that elusive comfort. They will do anything to ‘find’ it. Cats don’t even try. They simply ARE comfortable. They ARE the comfort.

Surrounded by a dozen of his students, the great Master Najatilahanjuli was lying on a bed of very sharp nails with a smile on his face. Eventually one of his students asked him if he was comfortable.

Najatilahanjuli replied, “Meow.”
