Being Eco! The Astonishing And Thrilling Aftereffect Of Boredom!
After talking about the benefits of being bored I took it a few steps forward.

I stumbled upon Yana Bostongirls' article, “Why I stopped being your loyal follower”, some time ago. In this article she asked a very interesting question:
Are you living the advice that you spout?
This question stuck with me for a while. I do try to write about what I do. But I also write about what I found out and find interesting and worth sharing.
One of the ideas that I heard about is the one about the benefits of being bored
I heard about this idea for some time now, and I do try to do this as much as possible. But I still reach for the phone when I am bored more than I would like.
That is what made me realize that I could change my schedule a bit.
What if I would take the children to school by buss?
So I did that.
“What happened?”, you ask? Well, thank you for your question!
I got to school, left the kids there, and started waiting for about 45 minutes for my next bus home.
So I grabbed myself a coffee and walked around the city. Got into a park, walked along the river, in another park, got back to the bus station, and waited another 15 minutes there. It was boring.
But it was AWESOME!!!
I have not been so relaxed for a long time.
Next time I took it a step farther. Because I am not using my car I don’t have time to go to the gym in the morning. So, to compensate I realized that I could walk home until the buss catches me and hop in the rest of the journey. This is how, since last week, I walk about 7 Km in the morning, 4 days a week.
The results?
- One full tank of gas less this month!
- One car less in the morning traffic!
- Stopped a lot of gas emissions going into the atmosphere. First from my car not being used. Second from the other cars that drive a little bit better because of the extra space in traffic.
- On the other hand, I got a lot of time for myself!
5. Time in the morning sun!
6. Quality time spent with the kids!
7. More movement in the morning for the kids and for me!
8. Environment awareness for the kids!
Unexpected result?
This change had a very nice unexpected consequence. Previously, when I was taking the kids to school, I would pick up my niece, Maria, as well. All three kids study at the same school and it was a very small detour for me to pick her up as well.
When I started using the bus I had to stop taking Maria. I thought that my brother-in-law will, probably, use his car to take her to school. So the whole idea of a car less in traffic will not be achieved.
But the surprise was that he didn’t and he taught Maria to use the school bus. With this, Maria learned to be more independent, and more confident.

I leave you with three little ducklings that want to tell you this:
Be green! Put in the effort! Do your part!
You will see improvements in ways you did not expect.
