Being Drunk For Parties Doesn’t Mean You’re an Alcoholic
I’m sober as I write this
“I’ll take two shots of tequila, please.”
We celebrated my friend’s birthday a few days ago.
Her roommate is another friend of mine, so we all decided to buy drinks that night.
We chugged down almost all of our bottles before we made an impulsive decision to walk twenty minutes to the club at 10 pm. We stumbled on the street, barked curse words, and ventured into our first club ever.
We took more shots and got a huge pitcher of a random alcoholic beverage.
That had to be one of the best drunk nights I’ve ever had.
Then…we went to the club again the next day.
We were already buzzed from last night. We decided not to drink before we got to the club.
Once we got in, I was bored as hell.
The songs were stale to me (even though they were the same songs I danced to yesterday). The crowd was stale. The energy of the whole damn club was odd.
I hated the first half of that experience.
But everything changed when I had three shots.
My head exploded with joy, I got into a more playful mood, and I had way more fun than before.
What’s the lesson here?
Sometimes you need to get drunk to have a good time — and that’s okay.
I’m not advocating for anyone to become an alcoholic here.
Everyone is different. Before we went to the club the second time, we played Super Mario Bros. on Nintendo switch and I was bored as hell. This doesn’t mean I’m not capable of doing cool things with my friends without drinking.
I’ve done tons of fun stuff with them while sober.
All I’m saying is there’s a certain energy you want to have for certain times.
If we’re all 21 and we’ve never been to a club late at night, who wouldn’t want to get buzzed? It’s all in good fun.
Being buzzed is not the same as being drunk.
Granted, we were drunk when we walked to the club the first time.
But I wasn’t drunk when I had those three shots the night after. I got buzzed. I know how many shots I can take before I get into the drunk territory.
It’s all about knowing your limits.
It’s okay to be buzzed to have a great time. It doesn’t make you an acholic because you want to spice up the night.
You still remember those fun times even when you’re buzzed.
So please, let loose and have fun sometimes.
As long as you’re conscious of your limits, you’ll be fine.
