Become a Better Writer by Changing Your Mentality

Unlocking creativity and success: The power of a positive writing mindset

I am tired of reading articles about writers complaining about the new algorithm and how little money they make from Medium! We have concluded that fraudulent activity occurred, and writers have been compensated for that. You may believe compensation is insufficient, but you should stop whining about it.

The partner program is only designed to be a complementary income anyway. It is not going to make you wealthy!

Now, why does all this whining upset me? Because I see so many talented writers on Medium who solely rely on their partner program earnings. To me, this is crazy. There are so many different platforms that you can write for, and you can take freelance writing jobs.

Before you become a better writer, you must first change your mentality? The question is, how do you go about doing just that?

Fitness

Going to the gym or running helps me out when it comes to this. During my training session, ideas will pop into my head, and I will write them down in notes on my phone. At the same time, my life automatically becomes less stressful, and it is easier to plan my day.

When you are writing, mental clarity is essential. Sometimes, we run into that writer’s block. Or we are stressed, and our thoughts are all over the place. You may feel like you can’t think straight and are overwhelmed by life. Writer’s block can also be hard to overcome, especially when you are suffering from brain fog.

I really encourage all writers to undertake some form of physical training regularly. It can be going to the gym, running, boxing, football, or a physical activity. The most important thing is that you get endorphins flowing throughout your body. When this occurs, thinking and developing topics to write about becomes easier.

Don’t Complain

Complaining does nothing! I used to be a complainer and a whiner, but I stopped when I realized how much energy I wasted on complaining. When you complain, you exert enormous energy by making yourself feel bad or annoyed.

Believe me, I understand that it is hard not to complain. What works best for me is talking about what I am grateful for and taking action. Think about it: when you take action, you have a greater chance of fixing what you are upset about.

When it comes to writing, you should start writing. Then, you stop thinking about what you are upset about and only about your writing. At the same time, you avoid having a victim mentality.

Having a victim mentality is dangerous because it sets you up for failure. For example, if you believe that the leadership at Medium is responsible for slighting you by changing the algorithm and, as a result, you make less money, you become stuck.

Instead, try and adapt your reading style to the new changes!

Focus on Quality

When I started on Medium and other platforms, I spammed content. The goal was to build an audience as quickly as possible. Some articles I wrote were horrible, but I published them anyway. I have stopped doing that because I cannot express myself in my writing when I post just to post.

Therefore, I decided to take more time to write specific pieces. I recommend you do this because you will definitely make your audience more engaged with your writing while, at the same time, they are eagerly waiting for your next post.

Quality writing also helps you attract an audience that really likes the type of content that you write.

Final Thoughts

To become a better writer, you can exercise, avoid complaining, and focus on your writing quality.

By shifting your mentality from limitation to abundance and opportunity, you open up new pathways for creativity and success. Remember, writing is not just an art :)
