6-WORD STORY CHALLENGE
Beautiful and Ominous
From a dark time in history

Devil’s Bridge, Antigua Slaves … tortured, murdered
For a time I lived on the Caribbean island of Antigua.
Devil’s Bridge is a stunningly beautiful but treacherous rocky outcropping prone to huge waves that crash violently on the sharp stones. One can cross Devil’s Bridge with extreme care, and I did, but seconds later look back to see the “bridge” covered with several feet of roiled surf.
History has it that slaves would be killed by being thrown into the sea here and left to be battered to death against the razor-sharp cliffs that ring the area. This, while their families and fellow slaves watched.
Once in the water, escape is impossible.
