When I started writing, I signed up to receive a daily email from Merriam-Webster dictionary with their word of the day. It’s an easy way to be exposed to new words. A better vocabulary can elevate writing from drab to dazzling.
A fellow Mediumite hosted a competition using a month's worth of the M-W words to create a story. Of course, I joined in.
What is even better, are the short quizzes that M-W offers. They’re so much fun! You have to think fast to choose a correct definition or name an object. There are themed quizzes from Valentine's Day to Star Wars; It’s a treasure trove of word games.
Although I still love my Candy Crush or Pet Rescue occasionally, M-W is worth checking out for an educational escapade.
