Perhaps a lifesaver for many people

It’s not as bad as you think. Image purchased from Freepik.

There are so many health trends people seem to be trying all over social media.

I love that everyone is experimenting with different lifestyle hacks, mostly consisting of natural ingredients.

Doctors don’t know it all; research can sometimes leave us in the dark regarding many different theories. I, for one, have tried many things — some beneficial, and some not.

That’s the beauty of trying something out for yourself — it may be the key thing that helps you live a more comfortable life. Who doesn’t want more of that regularly?

One hack I had to mention was a drink that supposedly gives you an ‘internal shower’ daily. When I read about it, my first thought led to my sister.

I’d see her with a gunk-filled bottle and ask her once what the world she was drinking.

“This is my lifesaver — it helps me go to the bathroom regularly.” I looked puzzled — it does? I thought nothing of it and assumed a friend had told her to have it.

Then this hack appeared in my search bar, and it just so happened that many influences swear by it too!

The hashtag #internalshower has more than 70 million posts with 228 million TikTok views.

So many people are looking for and trying different alternatives to relieve digestive symptoms, bloating, and constipation and many health professionals are overwhelmed by weighing up how effective these are.

So what is this drink anyway

Our internal shower drink consists of the following simple ingredients:

  • Water (one cup)
  • Chia seeds (2 tablespoons)
  • Lemon juice (half a lemon)

You mix all these and let them sit for five minutes until the chia seeds start to form a gel-like consistency.

A lot of people claim this drink quenches their appetite, as well as helps them combat bloating & constipation.

I’m assuming the gel-like consistency plays a part in helping to ease anyone’s appetite once it hits your stomach.

Another health hacker says its consistency is hard to swallow!

Chia seeds and water help promote digestion and make bathroom trips easier. Chia seeds also help fight inflammation if you regularly include them in your diet.

Soluble fibre makes stools a lot softer.

Water is also a big contributor here, making maintaining those regular toilet habits easier. People, in general, don’t drink enough water.

You also get a boost in fibre from Chia — as most people generally don’t eat enough fibre-rich foods.

One thing you might encounter

As anyone who starts to add fibre into your diet — it’s best to start slow.

Start by adding those two tablespoons, and add more as you become accustomed to it. If you can’t tolerate it well, start smaller and build your digestion up. Too much fibre too quickly can cause even more bloating, stomach cramps and perhaps worsen constipation.

Just make sure you are drinking enough water too. The two go hand in hand here.

It would help if you also drank this mixture regularly to benefit from it.

Like any natural laxative, it’s much more useful if you take it daily to keep those stools moving out.

Please don’t wait until you are constipated to do something about it.

Instead, consistently drinking more water and this mixture every day will help you.

The benefits derive from helping move your bowels regularly, but it is not an earth-shattering health benefit.

It leads to a positive outcome if you still include vegetables, water, and exercise.

By the way, you can also make delicious chia puddings. Here’s a nice recipe for you to try out.

Have you experimented with this drink before, and if so, how did you find it?
