Be Well, Dress Well, and Act Well

Don’t Accept Less From Others

Do you have friends who don’t return phone calls, don’t answer invitations, and don’t show up when you make plans together? They see nothing wrong with this behavior and have no respect for others. Don’t waste your time with people like this. Only accept those who treat you as well as you treat them. If they don’t treat you as well as you treat them then eliminate them.

Be Well

Like who you are because you are a good person. Don’t dance around saying I’m wonderful. Look at yourself honestly and objectively. Do you have some flaws? Of course, you do. We all do. If you think you don’t that is probably a flaw. Be brutally honest. See what you’re doing wrong then make corrections. That’s how to be a better person.

Don’t try to be better than others. Be a better person. Don’t look down your nose at others. I’ve known some good decent people who weren’t refined or very well-mannered. Though they weren’t well-versed in etiquette, they were good people who were worth knowing. Be the best you can be and recognize quality people.

Dress Well

The way you present yourself is a reflection of who you are. Years ago I worked in Manchester, Tennessee and the people dressed in old T-shirts with faded pictures, faded blue jeans, and dirty sneakers. When they passed me on the street they didn’t smile or say hello. No one was mean or rude. They were just in their little world.

After that I went to Binghamton, New York. What a difference. The people of Binghamton dressed much better. The men wore chinos and nice leather shoes and polo or button-down shirts. When I passed people on the street they would smile and say hello, or stop and talk. They were much happier and it showed in their appearance. They took pride in themselves and treated others well.

When you dress well, it says you respect yourself and others. When you dress like a slob it says you don’t respect yourself and don’t care what others think. People will judge you. How do you want to be judged?

Act Well

The way you act affects your life. Maybe you grew up in a bad area where people shoplifted, stole, used drugs, and who knows what else? When you become intelligent enough to see that behavior is wrong, you must take action and move away from it.

You may make some enemies. Some may not like you improving yourself and may spread gossip to harm your reputation. I read something about that recently.

Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.

Remember that when someone tells you something of questionable credibility. When you are told bad things about someone, the person telling you may tell others bad things about you. These people are evil.

Treat people with respect and expect nothing less from them. Okay, we all make mistakes and we may do something rude or insensitive to a friend unintentionally. But we are friends and we can overlook a mistake if you know your friend didn’t mean it. But if it becomes a habit, get a new friend.

If someone shows you disrespect you don’t have to disrespect them or show anger. Just move on. Some people go through life mad at the world. It’s their problem and they need to help themselves. Don’t let them drag you down to their level.

Life Will Be Better

When you feel better about yourself and treat others well, you will attract better people. When you are around people who treat you with respect, you will be happier and live a better life.
