Be Open (More About Me) - Amanda Wilson

A Warm Welcome into my World of Weird!

Hi! I’m Amanda. I’m a writer, a witch, and a mom. I’m pretty shy in person, so when I decided to build an ‘online presence’, I promised myself I’d be transparent, authentic, and treat every interaction as though it were with a trusted friend. (Can someone be your friend if they’re not trusted? Food for thought…)

Brief Bio: I live in a small town in New Hampshire with my son and two cats. I have an amazing partner, Jody- he’s legit the man of my dreams. Everything I’ve ever wished for in a partner and more. I graduated from Emmanuel College (Boston, MA) cum laude, earning my degree in Sociology and Psychology, with a distinction in the field of Sociological Qualitative Research.

I’m introverted and shy, but once I’m comfortable with you, I’m bubbly and optimistic. I love life, and want to make the most of it!

Professional Pagan: Writing Witch

My lifestyle and spirituality have a lot to do with my writing career- in fact, my career wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t become a Pagan and a witch. My lifestyle inspires my work, and my work is part of my lifestyle. I write for myself, I write for others, but most of all I write for the world. People like me- they’re survivors, they’re spiritual, they’re creative, they’re on a mission for sovereignty or healing or enlightenment- or all three. I love life, I love people, and I so badly want others to create a life that satisfies them. If you’re thinking ‘oh well wouldn’t it be better to be happy?’ — no. Happiness is a fleeting emotion. Satisfaction is lasting, and nothing heals your heart and mind like a sated soul.

My whole writing career started with Hubpages. It was exhilarating and terrifying and invigorating and surreal. Not only was my work accessible to literally anyone, but it was also admired. I knew I could write well — I graduated both high school and college with honors because of my writing, but I wasn’t sure if my writing was admirable. Posting articles on Hubpages both cemented what I was studying (earning my priestess title and making myself a reliable resource for paganism, witchcraft, and self-sovereignty), but it was helping people. Helping others helped me, and gave me the courage and confidence I needed to pursue a career as a professional writer. Below is a list of my primary writing jobs, with a little description of each one.

Magical Medium Spiritual Services this site used to be my blog- magicalmusingsblog.com, which offered tarot/oracle readings as well as musings about magic, witchcraft, and pagan life in general. But when I accepted my first book deal I created an author portfolio website, which also had a blog. Instead of trying to juggle two blogs, I decided I’d move the blog posts over to my writing website (which, ahem, I-still-need-to-do), and turn Magical Musings into a site dedicated to the spiritual services I offer. I have expanded the services to include spiritual and witchcraft guidance, mediumship readings, and tarot/oracle readings.

Write Kind of Magic my Author Portfolio website and blog. This site is still in its’ infancy. It features my portfolio, which includes links to my various writing profiles and publications, and my blog about the magic of writing. I plan to upload an archive of my Magical Musings blog posts, I just haven’t had the opportunity yet.

Witch Way Magazine I LOVE being a part of the Witch Way family. I have my own column, Raising Little Witchlings, and contribute an assortment of articles to each monthly issue. I’m also the Submissions Manager and Social Media Marketing Manager. The editor-in-chief/founder Tonya hosts a podcast, The Witch Daily Show, and I’ve had the honor of being involved with as well as the Events and Interview Coordinator. It’s an incredibly magical, rewarding, and enlightening collection of jobs that I love with all my heart. I’m so grateful for the opportunities WWM has afforded me- they’ve made my dreams come true. I can’t say much about this yet, but I will have my first book published with Witch Way Publishing this year. I always wanted to be an author, and Witch Way made that happen.

an Artist, maybe…sorta?

I’m more than just a writer- I’m an artist. I draw, I paint, I sculpt, I crochet and craft. I have ADD, so traditional meditation doesn’t work for me. But I learned that when I’m drawing or painting, or mushing clay into a creature, I can slow my thoughts and see each one more clearly. It’s a common misconception that meditation is meant to clear your mind- it’s not. The goal of meditating is to see each thought clearly, and learn to will a thought away once it has been observed. I got into art when I was going through a really dark time in my life — my C-PTSD was at its’ worst, and agoraphobia had me locked inside my home. When I was too scared to take my son out to the backyard to play, I realized I needed to heal. His sad little face broke my heart and incentivized me to figure out some way to process the trauma and depression. So I started drawing. Since then I’ve experimented with just about every medium I could get my hands on, and I’ve found that I’m not bad at drawing, painting, and sculpting with polymer clay (I can’t stand the feel of pottery clay- the texture **shudders**). I taught myself to crochet as well. I’m not great at making art, but I love it- which I suppose makes me an artist, yeah?

Mom Life

I attribute my career to my lifestyle, and my lifestyle to my #1 soul purpose: being a mother. Joshua is 5, turning 6 in September and I’m pregnant with another son, Logan, who is due in September!

Joshua is my world, but I have to admit, he’s a handful — hyperactive ADHD, autistic, a Virgo, and has the stubbornness of any Taurus (which is my sign ironically). I will be creating another MoreAboutMe article talking about being a parent to a child with autism and ADHD, but for now, I’ll say that raising Josh so far has been challenging, pushing me to my limits and then some, but it’s been just as rewarding. I wouldn’t change anything about him- in my eyes, he’s perfect. Diagnosis and disorders included. He’s really excited to have a little brother. He keeps telling me he wants to be the ‘best big brother in the world’. I tell him that just wanting to be the best makes him the best.

  3. What I’ve learned as a parent of a boy with ADHD and autism
