Hallo, I’m A Shayens Abran the owner and editor in chief of Be Open publication!

UPDATE December 22, 2022: We're closed for new editors application!

As I have said before that working as Be Open editor will be slightly different with other pubs. I don’t want to burden a small group of people for this responsibilities, that’s why Be Open will accept at least 15 editors to help manage that.

So, what exactly our editors need to do?

Here are the outline of your each day’s editor duties:

1. Handle/review at least 1 story submission, edit (if needed) and publish it. (Really help if you take more than 1 story :-) .
2. Encourage our writers to feature at least 1 story from fellow Be Open’s writer by copy/paste the message below to each story they handle who still doesn’t do featuring other writer’s story. The editors send it as a private note. ****UPDATE: It's no more required!

Let’s scan detailly the 2 simple Editor’s duties:

1. Handling story submissions from Be Open writers, make some edits to publish them after they follow our pub's requirements:

• Grammar and typos corrections (you can do it yourself and informed the corrected parts through private note it to the writer).
• Make sure they format the Title and Subtitle, also the featured image properly.
• Enlarge very small featured image by yourself or ask the writer to change it. (see about the title and subtitle format fonts and accepted sizes for featured image and for image within the body of story below this post).
• Ask the writer to add more words if their piece is under our minimum of 100 word limit (Be Open accept ±100 to ± 1500 words stories/poems).
• Make sure their stories follow Medium rules (no racism, sexism, hate speech, no ads, duplicate content, etc). Also, we only accept soft erotic but writers can still link their pure erotic pieces in the story they submitted to Be Open.
• Placing or add missing featured image under the title and subtitle. You can search the image for them or ask the writer themeselves to do it through private note. You may need to encourage them to use free images from Unsplash, Pexels or Pixabay if they don’t use personal image.

2. (No more required!) Put a provided message about encouraging writer to do reciprocity (featuring 1 other writer's story in their piece):

While reviewing the submission or before click the publish button, please do check whether or not the writer mentioning/putting other wrtiter's story in the body or at the bottom of their piece (story/poem).

The advantages of being Editors:

1. You can submit and approve your own stories to Be Open almost immediately.
2. Build relationship with writers you reviewing.
3. Get abundance story ideas from any kind of writers through their submitted stories.
4. Build followers base.
5. Sometimes Medium doesn't put editor' name to the published stories. You can do it yourself to state that you're and Editor who approves the story. You can write it at the end of the story, so readers will more recognize you.

Other things expected to do:

• Help writers if they need assistance or having a questions.
• Without exception, all writers and editors must follow all the requirements above when they submit their own stories to Be Open.
• Thanking new writers for their first story submission.
• (It is optional but highly recommended as it will benefit yours too: getting good reputation, build relationship, gaining new followers, etc), that is to appreciate our writers works by highligthing, clapping, commenting, etc.
• Encourage writers to paywall their stories too.

Other things you may need to know:

• As a new pub, Be Open gets story submission in the range of 2–10 stories/day. You may not each day have the task doing editing job as there may be a situation where all the stories had already been reviewed and published by fellow editors.
• You can find story to review from your notification tab or through this link: https://medium.com/be-open/stories/submissions (I suggest you use that link. If through notification tab, sometimes the story you clicking has been published by other editor).
• To avoid other editors edit the story in your hand, you can write: Hi, I’m (your Medium name), the editor for this story! Don’t forget to remove that note before publishing that story!
• Also for the first ever writer you review, you may need to introduce yourself that you are one of Be Open editors through private note to avoid misunderstanding.
• You can choose your own schedule to handle and publish the story submissions. Post in USA times (morning to early night) is the best as Medium users mostly from US.
• If in two weeks you are failed to do the editor duties (maybe by busyness, not willing to involve anymore, etc) your right as Be Open editor will be removed and replaced with others. But, of course you can still continue to contribute as our writer. :-)
