Be Emotionally Rich Today

What’s the point of achieving if we don’t feel good?

Many of us associate rich with money, finance and materialistic things. How about we start looking at creating emotional wealth for ourselves? Our body and mind are the biggest assets that we can have, and we have the right and ownership to invest in it.

Let’s get down to business. Ever heard of ROI? Well, Return On Investment applies to your own emotional health as well. The benefits that you will receive from investing some time to take care of yourselves will reap you favourable gains in comparison to your cost and effort. In simpler terms, it pays to take care of yourself.

You know it. You know what makes you feel good and works for you, but as part of our natural drive to achieve, we don’t see it as important as the outcomes we deliver. I have been guilty of this myself as well. I know that journaling, yoga and meditation have brought me to a place that made me felt better than ever but when I’m caught up in my tasks and striving to achieve, I drop these practices; just when I need them the most to restore my balance.

When you practice regular self care as a ROI activity, your energy will improve and help you maintain an optimal mental state. With more calm and focus, you will feel more confident and motivated to get back into your tasks with more flow.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

When you feel relaxed and balanced, you are able to tolerate higher levels of stress and handle any challenges that come your way.

If you look at any successful billionaire or entrepreneur, they have a particular self-care routine to keep them in the best mind and shape. For example, Bill Gates regularly practices meditation as he experienced the benefits of better focus. He allocates specific times to practice it two or three times a week, for about 10 minutes each time. Those who are emotionally wealthy build a diligent and continuous practice with their mind. They know the power of their thoughts over their mind and body and how it pays off to dedicate time on self-work.

This emotional awareness allows people to remove the clutter and unhelpful patterns in their minds and think with more clarity, focus, which allows space for creativity and innovation to flourish. Building these practices doesn’t have to be hard. As humans, we are habits of creatures and simple reminders of scheduling your self-care practices in your calendar will help you get started. Make them as important as all the other appointments you have.

The more you practice self care the more returns of investment you’ll reap. You will radiate more calm, confidence and energy to do the work you love. You will feel on top of the game and in control. Are you ready to be emotionally rich today? What self-care practices will you build into your diary?
