Summary

The article encourages embracing the mindset of a "seeker," someone who continuously explores new perspectives and methods without blindly following a single teacher's way.

Abstract

The author, Larry Nowicki, reflects on the realization that one cannot master all knowledge and that there are always multiple perspectives and methods to learn. He shares his friend Eric's insight that being a "student" implies following a teacher's way, whereas being a "seeker" means being open to learning from others while not necessarily accepting their way as the only truth. A seeker is characterized by the pursuit of potentially better ways, even if it means not finding them. The article invites readers to consider whether they are seekers or students and to explore the unknown by visiting the author's work on hiddenforge.net and his Medium profile. Nowicki, who refers to himself as the KISS Specialist, emphasizes the importance of keeping things "Silly Simple."

Be a seeker

While going down the path of my life I decided that I could not master all I wanted to learn. There would always be another point of view. Another way of doing things.

I would be always a student.

My friend Eric pointed out to me that if I was always a student I would be following a teacher and doing things their way.

He suggested that I was a seeker because I did not always follow a teacher. I did learn their way but I did not accept it as the only way.

A seeker is always looking to find other ways that might be better than what was done before. I might find there is not at present a better way or even another way. I am at least willing to look at other ways.

You might find a better way or you might not. You will never know if you don’t look.

Are you a Seeker or a Student?
