Don’t Waste Time

“If time be of all things the most precious, wasting time must be the greatest prodigality.” — Benjamin Franklin
Time is invaluable
I have found this to be true the older I get and the longer this tough year has gone on. I recently started adding inspirational sayings to photographs I’ve taken. I’ve added collections of those photos into a video for my Inspiration Corner at my YouTube channel, Sunflower Quest.
One of those photos is the one included with this article. My husband and I had visited the National Watch & Clock Museum in Lancaster, PA, which was started in 1977. The clock shown in the photograph was featured in the front of the museum. I have always loved photography and it just seemed like a perfect piece to photograph.
Stop wasting time
In my own life, I’ve recently started reviewing how much time I’ve been wasting on aimless activities like scrolling through social media newsfeeds or overanalyzing things. Wasting time means I am not creating as much as I should be creating. Once I realized that I was wasting too much time on things that didn’t matter, it opened up my eyes to see that as long as I have breath, I have a purpose to keep creating.
Focus on what matters
I’ve made a concerted effort to start truly being in the moment no matter where I am. Even if I’m simply walking down our long driveway just checking the mail, I want to be in the moment. Breathe in the air — which is now getting crisp up here in the Northeast with Fall weather in full force.
I’ve made every effort to enjoy the moments I get to spend with family, whether I see my parents at church on Sunday, or get to spend time with my nieces who live next door to my husband and I with their mom, my sister.
Life is precious. Please take the time to slow down and enjoy it. I think when the pandemic began months ago, we all were forced to take the time to slow down and people connected more in our slowed-down society. However, after so many months in this “new normal” I hope we will continue to focus on what really matters.
To me that is people. Trying to love others like God loves us.
“Hope is the pillar that holds up the world. Hope is the dream of a waking man.” — Pliny the Elder
Keep hope alive. Make an effort to love one another. Continue to create and focus on what really matters.
