Be 10% Happier ASAP! Using One of These Habits.

Increase your happiness in a relatively short period of time.

How quickly you can increase your happiness depends on several factors, such as your current level of happiness, your personality, your goals, your circumstances, and your actions. Some research has suggested that you can increase your happiness by about 10% in a few weeks or months by following some simple and effective strategies.

  1. Focus on the present: Write down the one best thing that happened on this particular day.
  2. Practicing gratitude: At the end of the day, write down three things you were grateful for that happened in the past 24 hours.
  3. Performing acts of kindness: Do something nice for a friend, family member, stranger, or yourself, such as giving a compliment, offering help, donating money or time, or treating yourself to something you enjoy. Thank someone, or just check up on someone to show that you care.
  4. Pursuing meaningful goals: You can try writing down what you want for yourself in the next 10 years and then narrowing it down to achieving it. Try Earl Nightingale’s Goal Setting Guide.
  5. Cultivating positive relationships with good people.
  6. Exercise regularly: Movement is medicine.
  7. Meditation: Even if it’s for 5 minutes, you just have to breathe consciously.

These are just some of the strategies that can help you increase your happiness in a relatively short period of time. The key is to be consistent and intentional with whatever you do and enjoy the process as much as the outcome.

What I like to do is divide my goals into two parts: The Morning and The Night goals. The Morning Goals: Write down my schedule, which includes exercise, meditation, and other activities that work on my meaningful goals. The Night Goals: I have printed templates that make me write down the best thing that happened to me and the things I am grateful for that day. Then I text someone I know praising them or letting them know I miss them and asking them how they are (if I haven’t done that during the day).
