Battletoads on NES. Don’t Play the Cartridge, Play on Emulator.
The First Souls Game, Am I Right?!
If you’re a gamer that grew up in the 90s and had a NES, you know the one game that all of us, myself included, had trouble with. Battletoads! I used to play the game with my brother until I stopped because he grew too obsessed with getting all of the best stuff.
By the time I was 12 and playing my NES alone, as I’ve always wanted, I got more into the game and was able to amass my own strategies especially dealing with General Slaughter on Stage 10.
But, if you played Battletoads then you knew what exactly you were up against and ten out of ten, you weren’t ready or the extra lives you got were not enough even if you restlessly beat up every crow in the Wookie Hole.
However, playing Battletoads on the cartridge back in the day was unforgiving. Now, playing it on the emulator is something that you should do. Yes, I am aware that it is no longer 1990–1991, I know this.
Battletoads was a game that killed mercilessly and really separated the skilled from the unprepared, I beat the game back in my hay day as it were. I was about 12 when I beat it, my brother beat it a lot sooner than I did.
One of the games that he managed to beat before me, I kept the trend going beating all of my other games. But, that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, if you have a gaming emulator, I suggest you play Battletoads on the emulator.
Some of you may be wondering why I’m saying this, you might be thinking. “Well, I got the original cartridge so long live the cartridge”. Well, can you access cheats on the cartridge, can you skip levels on the cartridge?
Personally, when it comes to the levels, I loved all of them with the exception of 4, 9, 10 and 11. I didn’t even mind level 8 even though I think that is the more annoying of the levels.
One of the other reasons why I suggest playing Battletoads on the emulator is because of the level skip. As I mentioned above level 11, the Clinger-Winger, is ironically the most irritating level in the game. I say ironic because 11 is my lucky number. That aside, I don’t even mind level 10, the Rat Race even though that’s just as equally frustrating.
The point is, you can skip these levels if you so desire if you have a game emulator like the one from these sites:
I. Retroarcadestore.com
II. Retro-naut.com
Despite the fact that there are warps on levels 4 and 6, taking them is necessary if you want to do a quick jump to Surf City, Big Blag’s territory and the Intruder Excluder, the hangout of Robo Manus.
Trust me when I say that the emulator makes this so much easier, but if you do continue to play it on the cartridge then I suggest the warps I mentioned above. Do not attempt Volkmire’s Inferno unless you’re skilled, like me lol.
I kid, but seriously playing this game on the emulator will make it a lot easier and boil down some of the more challenging areas with the unlimited lives cheat. Normally, I don’t condone cheating in video games unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary!
With Elden Ring, I took some shortcuts to kill bosses especially using one of the legendary weapons, the Sword of Night and Flame! Anyway, if you love Battletoads but hate the over the top challenge of the game, get an emulator from one of the sites I mentioned above and play it on there.
Enable as many cheats as you can and are able, you’ll be thankful you did when those stupid annoying ducks on Level 9, the Terra Tubes just pass right over you. I know it cuts out a lot of the “interaction”, but a small price to pay to really stick to it to those dicks! Am I right?
