Bats Moving In

Fun stories from my mom

My mom was telling me the story a few months ago. I know I heard the story before, but I didn’t remember all the details. My grandmother was staying over at my mom’s condo. It was just a regular ordinary day, and they were getting ready to go to bed. My grandma was telling mom that she is hearing something weird little chipping sound.

What could it be?

They did not know what it was. They’re just messing around and laughing in the bed when hearing the sounds. As mom told me the story and we are laughing because I can visualize them just making fun and laughing about these weird sounds.

Now, mom is starting to hear the sounds too. It sounds like baby chickens. You have to know that when she’s telling me the story, she’s imitating baby chickens. It is quite funny. After a while, they did decide to turn the light on, and they see about flying around in the condo.

Mom has heard the story somewhere that bats like to go into your hair, so she covered my grandmother and my sister’s hair with the blanket, and she was yelling out to her partner to come over there because they have bats in the house. The neighbor started to try to catch the bats there were many of them. There was one window at the condo that did not have a screen on it, and it was open slightly allowing the bats to come in. There was a renovation of the outside area, and the suspicion was that the bats home was disturbed, and they were looking for a new place to live. This was the condo where my mom also lived.

She did not want to live together with the bats so as you became determined to make them move out of the condo.

First, they were not sure it was a bat they thought maybe there are birds. Then they realize quickly that they were not birds. Now they have to try to figure out how to catch them and release them outside. My mom’s partner Sandor came up with the idea to get pots and lids and try to catch them with those kitchen elements.

At this point, I am laughing so hard because I could see both of them running around the house with the pots and the lids trying to catch the bats at the same time my grandmother and my sister were covered under the blankets. It must have been a hilarious sight.

They kept catching them and releasing them to the patio but there were a lot of bats in the house. One bat got accidentally hit and landed on a sofa on its back and was crying. Looking at my mom realized how beautiful they are she had never seen a bat so close before.

They taught that they got all the bats out of the house, and they laughed for a few days to go to a place down the country. They have been gone for about 2 to 3 days and when they come back, they heard the same sounds as little chickens. Mom started to look everywhere where the sounds come from. The windows were closed so no more bats could have come in. She kept looking and looking until she found the baby bats in the back of a cabinet hanging down in a row. They got all the little ones out as well and set them free. By now mom would hear the sounds of the bats even if they were not there. This whole process was about one week long. Mom thinks they had a total of 10–12 bats.

There was one occasion when Mom thought that there was one more bat and called her partner to come home just to realize that it was only a black pair of socks. Mom did not realize it was just a sock she left the room and locked the door.

I was laughing so hard.

All the bats survived moving into my mom’s condo and being asked to leave by pots and lids. I love it. We discussed how beautiful the bats are. These bats were fairly small in size, the little ones were about 6cm long, about two inches.

We have bats at our house now and we watch them at night. They eat the mosquitoes around the house. They are super-fast, it is a lot of fun to watch them.
