Bathing Al Fresco After A Downpour
Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle
Impromptu bath on potting shed roof.
A gang of 6 swooped in on this puddle and went mad — spinning around in a rugby scrum, feathers fluffed out, water spraying everywhere. By the time I’d grabbed my camera, four had flown off and they’d almost emptied the pool. A week or so ago, they would have been hard pressed to find water anywhere.
The past month has given us hot, cold, wet, dry, sunny, and overcast weather — which is what we’re used to. We would be stuck for ways to say hello to each other if we didn’t have meteorological anomalies to comment on.
June has started out on a rollercoaster. We had a couple of days of hot sunshine and shirtsleeves — we were even beginning to wonder how the wild birds would cope in a drought. Then the temperature dipped and the rain was back with some very strong winds for company. We know we’ll end the month with a lot less fruit on the trees, but anything that can’t hang on tight needs to go, because overladen trees can cause problems later in the year.
No need to worry about our feathered visitors. Water everywhere for bathtime antics, and the June drop will provide them with all the fallen fruit they need.
