Bad News! My February Stats Plummeted!
Examining My Erratic Stats
So, here we are, the beginning of March 2024.
As many of my fellow Medium writers and contributors are doing, I’m going to share and examine my stats for the last few months.
First, it’s important to understand why my stats took a major nose dive last month.
I have some plausible theories.
Quite a few experienced, veteran writers here have repeatedly stated that views, reads and the subsequent earnings are directly tied to engagement, genuine interaction with other Medium contributors and consistently posting quality content.
I’ve found this to be true as the frequency of my activity and interaction here have impacted my reads and earnings.
Let’s take a look at my first few months as a Medium contributor.
December 2023
I started here as a Friend of Medium a day or so after Christmas in December of 2023.
I had no idea what to expect but I was ecstatic that I earned $2.03 in the last few days of the month as a brand new writer.

After editing, updating and fact-checking, I uploaded several dozen original articles that I had written over the past decade.
January 2024
I rapidly gained a few hundred followers in January and my earnings grew at what I considered an exponential pace.
I was very excited to crank out an article a day early in the month of January and I joined a reading club and kept current on stats and trends as shared by my fellow writers.
As I approached mid-January, I decided to set an earnings goal of $100 for the month.
Well, here’s where I ended up:
January $96.20
I fell a little short of my $100 goal so I was determined to achieve that number in February despite having fewer days to accomplish it.
February 2024
In February, my workload at my job increased tremendously and I had family business to tend to for a few days.
I had to step away from Medium completely for about five days and, as I expected, all of my stats plummeted.
In fact, the week that I was absent I earned less than $1.00 total.
Ugh.
So, here’s my final number for the month:
February 49.08
March 2024
March is here and I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to hang out here more regularly and post some good, quality content, read and interact with my fellow writers and hopefully hit that $100 goal.
Also, I hope to have 1,000 followers by months end.
As of this writing, I have 811 followers and that count has been growing a little bit everyday.
