TRAIN JOURNEYS

Bacharach to Rothenburg

An exhausting day of train travel

The cab dropped us at the station at Bacharach. We were on the 8.30 am train again, but instead of disembarking at Bingen, we stayed on to Mainz where we changed trains.

Straight through the huge Frankfurt station — thankfully we didn’t have to get off here — to Wurzburg where we changed trains to Steinach where we had to change trains again to Rothenburg, 4 trains in all; exhausting even though Keeley did most of the lifting of my suitcase on and off the train.

As soon as we reached our room for the night, we luxuriated in a beautiful big triangular bath, which was just what my poor feet needed! Rejuvenated, we set off to explore the picture-perfect, centuries-old village of Rothenburg.
