Baby Jessica
A Poem
I remember thinking that Michelle from Full House fell down a well,
that’s what she looked like anyway, on the screen, or that somehow this was something that could happen
to any baby, at any time, any place, but that this baby she was all over the news, in the papers that used to exist,
adults with giant bangs, large glasses, huge dresses shoulder pads, talking about a baby who was trapped in a well, talking
about what they saw or heard on TV, and children walking by their parents watching grown up TV in the dark on
their way to their rooms, to their own TVs, wondering what if a hole were to open up in the hallway
and what if we fell into it, into this well, our own well, would anyone notice
in time to let the TV know about it.
