We Are So Impatient

Oh sweet, instant gratification…

You wanna know what’s insane?

You.

And me. Especially me.

Why?

I somehow think that I need everything now.

That I need to figure it all out now.

That I can’t and don’t have time to wait for the results.

So what do I do?

I take the shortcut.

But this isn’t even the insane part. This is simply normal. This is everybody.

The insane part is that I don’t even want the results to come quickly.

I want to work for it.

But then I don’t, at the same time.

So can I really say I want to work for it?

I know that it takes a lot of patience to reach success, and the more ambitious the goal, the more extreme the patience required.

I know this. We know this.

But somehow we think we can rush to it.

You want to be there so bad.

You relive it in your mind day in and day out.

Do you even want to get there fast?

If you somehow found some secret sauce that would get you there, would you enjoy having not taken the journey?

Maybe you will.

It’s different for me. I don’t need to hurry up and be successful to know if I will feel fulfilled.

How many successful people have to tell you that the journey was better than the destination?

How many have to say that the feeling of achieving your big dreams is only temporary? How many have to say that they were automatically looking for the next challenge to continue growing?

And you want to just…skip that?

No, I don’t think you do.

So why try to find a shortcut when one doesn’t exist?

A shortcut is really just a veiled long-cut.

You’ll find that the shortcut leads you nowhere. In fact, often it leads you to develop more problems and puts you farther away from the true destination.

Instant gratification is the problem. All of this technology at our fingertips. We can find anything we want!

No longer is taking a trip to the library to look up quick information is a thing. We can google it!

You can even google success. We can google our dreams and think about being there.

But unlike other things you can just look up and find the answer to, not even Google can make you do the work. Only you can.

We tell people our dreams and look at our dreams because it makes us feel good…as if we’ve achieved something.

Isn’t that crazy?

Think about it. Nothing you do outside of putting your head down and doing the work moves you forward.

You’re wasting time and energy.

You want to be there so bad. You do everything to get in that space, but it’s only a space that’s even farther away.

It’s a trap. A decoy. A facade.

You’re only hurting yourself and you know it. At the end of the day, you are still where you are with your feelings and emotions, wanting to be somewhere that you know you aren’t.

You can fool yourself, but deep down you know you can’t.

As much as you try not to think about it, you know that you don’t deserve anything that you don’t work for.

So why waste time trying to be somewhere fast when you don’t want to? Even when you know that the fast way isn’t actually fast? Why not do the actual work it takes to reach that destination?

Death is certain. So is work. You will never reach success without work.

Why do you think you can cheat life?

Your lack of patience is the problem, but so is your ego.

Life doesn’t owe you any favors. Life won’t guarantee you anything but mortality.

Don’t waste it.

It’s funny, we waste time wallowing in the sorrows of how long it will take when the time will pass anyway. It doesn’t matter if you’re on board with your goals or not. Life is gonna keep moving.

It’s going to keep moving, and at some point, it will take your life along with it.

That’s just how it is.

Think about all the time you’ve wasted not working on your goals. Now think about how if you were working toward your dreams during all of those times.

One could argue you would’ve been there already? Much further ahead at least, right?

And you are complaining about how long the journey is? You’ve wasted so much of it!

If it takes getting you to realize how much of your life you’ve wasted to move you to action, then I’ll do it. As much as I’d like to sugarcoat and make you feel good, I can’t.

I’d be doing you a disservice if I lied to you.

It’s not okay. It won’t get better.

Not unless you do.

So if you feel like you’ve wasted so much time and it makes you sad and angry, good. Turn those feelings into drive and motivation. Suck it up and be your own hero. Take life by the reins and live it with intention.

We’ve all wasted time. I’ve been wasting SO much time. It’s never too late, but that doesn’t change the time I’ve wasted. I can’t change anything about the past, so I will fix my current situation and stop wasting so much damn time.

Be patient in how long it will take to reach your goals in such a short life, but make the most of all that time.

We are constantly reminded of our mortality that it drives us to want to move fast.

If you have to wait anyway, make the most of it.
