Graham D. Cooke created and runs the AYOT Family and one of his original editors was Kathy K. She has decided recently to move on to other pursuits, which will still include writing but not editing. So if you want to sign up to be a writer for AYOT, please contact Graham and do not reply with a comment to this article. The original article is still intact and will be updated in the near future.

Want to publish to Medium’s “Are You Out There” (AYOT) publication? Well then, please read the previous two (2) sections to the submission guidelines, before completing the instructions here.

Fulfilling all previous tasks, allows you to get signed up by the current Gate-keeper Editor on Patrol 😂 — Graham’s words, not ours.

Yes, youngling, Padawan, etc.; this is the test you must face! 😂

How many sections have you now had to read to get signed up? 😂 It’s not hard … c’mon! What’s the number? Psst, it’s an open book test 😮 🧐 .

I know the last Submission Guidelines version to sign up new writers was shorter — kind’a.

Sorry. But this process was drawn out a bit longer for a reason.

Why the change? Well, Graham, the Managing Editor — his words 🖐 — decided it was fairer to share the wealth around amongst all the editors volunteering their time on the publication.

Plus, one editor had volunteered to be the “Gate-keeper” initially to new writer sign-ups going forth to give Graham more time for other tasks.

FYI: Those other tasks include mentoring new Medium writers, free limited term Medium publication editing services to the AYOT family of publications, writing helpful entertaining instruction guides, cf. GOLD Writing, personal writing, etc.

NOTE: After every ~100 person cycle sign-up, Gate-keeper duty will rotate.

To become a Writer

For the Are You Out There publication

1. Did you read and follow the instructions for each previous CTA section.
2. Add a response comment to this final sign-up portal with the text 1️⃣ “Add me as a writer, please.” 2️⃣ Provide your Medium ID, for example (e.g.), “@kathyk2022”
3. Check your publication list — give it a day (maybe less) at least — to verify you see Are You Out There now shows.

You thought that was it?

Now you need to get writing!

Don’t let your writing status with AYOT lapse too long after first signing up. If you don’t submit within a month, your writer status gets terminated. NOTE: You can always re-apply if you forget .

Once you write for AYOT, keep writing. You don’t want your work ending up on the dusty bookshelves of the AYOT archive, do you?

AYOT will always keep a desk for you in the Writers Den, though it’s growing too. Frequent writers are gathering speed and prevalence in the features area. New feature pages are getting added regularly.

This has been a collaborative effort between Graham and Kathy. More editors will add their ‘touch’ in the future.
