Awakening —Something Familiar
Visions from her past…

If you haven’t read the Awakening saga, start there first!
With each purposeful step she took down the sidewalk, passerby scattered before her in an attempt to flee the path of the woman intimately intertwined with machine.
Some wildly ran into parking meters, others into parked cars — setting off alarms, a few darted into moving traffic with horns blaring, and into each other — crashing and tripping.
FAITH paid their frantic actions no attention.
With the Shadow file and accompanying image of the target open, her glowing visual prosthesis danced from one face to the next as she scanned each humanoid in sight, seeking a match.
Her stride never slowed as none of them resembled her objective.
At the end of the sidewalk, a small child darted out of a toy store, oblivious to the Fully Automated Intelligent Tactical Humanoid advancing in her direction.
The girl’s long, dark chocolate pigtails chased after her as she enthusiastically twirled a stuffed giraffe at arms length.
FAITH’s step however, slowed a fraction — but not in a noticeable way to those fleeing her path or observing from behind the safety of a large, inanimate object.
There was something almost — familiar — about the child.
As FAITH strode down the sidewalk, she watched the young girl stop mid-twirl, gazing intently into the shop. She darted back into the store as quickly as she emerged, pigtails waving behind her.
Opening the digital scan of the young girl, she aligned it next to the photo of her target from the Shadow file. The child had an undeniable resemblance to the man.
Stopping at the toy store, FAITH looked through the window. Her eye cast an orange reflection as she scanned the patrons, unbeknownst to them. She paused for a nanosecond on the girl. Seeing the child reach for an elderly woman’s hand, FAITH turned from the store.
The man in the file was not not in there. She needed a way to locate him.
Were they indeed related or did she need to run a diagnostics test after the second upload of information?
Amidst the screams of terror surrounding her on the street, she glanced at the girl, then her organic eye focused on her own reflection.
Since awakening, this was the first she had seen herself.
Beyond being FAITH, she had no identity. No purpose.
Yet she couldn’t shake the clouded feeling in the recesses of her mind that there was more.
The face looking back at her seemed vaguely familiar.
She stood there for a brief moment — staring at herself. She began analyzing the curvature of her jaw, the angle and height of her cheek bones, the fire within her eye. She had seen this woman before.
FAITH took a facial scan of herself and opened the image beside the photo from Shadow.
Her head tilted ever so slightly as she compared the undeniable similarities.
Taking the scan of herself, FAITH removed the cyborg implants and reconstructed the remaining areas of her face.
Her lips parted as she stared, full of questions, at an exact match.
Feeling a sharp jolt of electricity in her head, the scan vanished with a myriad of questions and blurry memories.
FAITH turned and walked further along the storefronts in search of a way to locate the target.
