Awake Without You
A poem of longing
I lie awake in the dead of night Memories swimming in my head Tendrils of sorrow pouring from my eyes My dark past I cannot escape
All the things that are on my mind The person I have pushed away They haunt me in my dreams Thinking of the one I had forsaken
I am sorry for abandoning you I thought I would cause only pain I could not have been more wrong By your side is where I should have stayed
When I cry out in the night Regretting all my awful choices My soul is sadly searching To make amends for my wrongdoing
So, if you hear my mournful wail A melody from the long-gone past Something that just couldn’t last Consider answering my plea Let your soul return to mine A second chance to make things right
