Average Joe Rogan?
If a trust-fund baby can be president, a meathead can be a global ambassador. It is time to get over appearances.
It is a sign of intelligence to look to the argument, not the agent. The sin — not the sinner. Especially if the sinner, in this case, is wearing a hunting cap and looks like he is about to mangle a dirt road from a monster truck.
It is an unwaivable fact that people who dismiss Joe Rogan have not really listened to him. Rogan is nearing 5000 hours of recorded conversations . How much of those have dire critics partaken in? If fewer than a hundred, I ask: what does keeping one’s word mean? Where is one as a writer, much less a thinker, if one keeps on with the cherrypicking?
Point simply, there is no taking away Joe Rogan’s dialogism and aristotelian perspective. Aggrandizing terms, one may say, for the context. They aren’t. The variation of voice he’s hosted is unprecedented in show history.
It makes him an ambassador.
I keep reading and hearing dismissals of this man by intellectuals.
It saddens me that the intelligentsia cannot look past facades of meatheadedness and cannabis vapor. This is the worst form of stereotyping, because it places one’s scapegoat at a comfortable distance, while the intellectual dissonance piles up beneath it. With morality, it is all or nothing.
The critics are people who haven’t listened to him much. They are oftentimes readers of mainstream media, or people dogmatically married to the progressivist agenda.
In life, you have to be dialogic. Whether it’s Focault, Dante, Havel, Næss, Plath, Paglia, the Bible or the Vedas, you have to have visited them, you have to be able to namedrop.
Rogan’s intellectual output, however, may be bigger. He’s had on polymath scientists, inventors, underdogs, philosophers, marxists, libertarians, doctors, journalists, artists, and even common folks. From both spectrums of politics, and religion, and race. Please read this again.
I assure you, intellectuals would stop thinking of Joe Rogan as a bro, a caveman, a pothead, if they openmindedly plowed through the multivalent radio canon. Not to mention that they would learn things they had no ideas of.
The recent conversations on covid prove Joe Rogan’s dialogism. He’s had on all sides: the believers, the disbelievers, the pro-vaxx but anti-mandate, the loons and the in-betweeners.
What more can you require of a conversation platform?
I will venture to say that I believe Joe Rogan deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for the conversation he has brought the world.
Anyone who dismisses Joe Rogan’s platform is clearly unfamiliar with its treasures.
