Summary

"Autumn Rain" is a poignant poem by America Zed that explores the depths of a quiet, unrequited love filled with pain and longing.

Abstract

The poem "Autumn Rain" by America Zed delves into the intricacies of a love that is not openly discussed yet profoundly felt. It depicts a love that is both futile and hopeless, leaving the speaker with a sense of despair and invisibility. The speaker reflects on a love that has tried to fade away, feeling unwanted and burdened by the sharp pain inflicted by the beloved. Despite the darkness and the desire to shield their heart with barriers, the speaker's love persists, surviving as a hidden, burning wound. Even amidst the pain, the speaker cannot find fault in the beloved, having traveled a rustic road with love enshrined within. The poem concludes with the speaker acknowledging the endurance of their affections, despite the expectation that they should have perished from the intensity of their emotions.

Opinions

  • The speaker conveys a deep sense of unrequited love that is both sorrowful and resigned to its fate.
  • There is a recurring theme of emotional pain compared to physical pain, as if love itself is a wound that refuses to heal.
  • The beloved is portrayed as someone who inflicts pain without realizing it, cutting through the speaker like glass.
  • The speaker has made attempts to protect their heart, but the love remains indelible, suggesting a struggle between self-preservation and emotional vulnerability.
  • Despite the overwhelming sense of despair, there is an undercurrent of reverence and loyalty towards the beloved, as the speaker is unable to dislike any part of them.
  • The poem reflects on the paradox of love's enduring nature, questioning why the speaker continues to love in the face of hopelessness and pain.

Autumn Rain

Poetry of love

* This is a quiet love, No discussion of Autumn rain.

A futile love that leaves me with no hope or a glowing face.

See it tried to die alone, Wasn’t wanted anymore.

As you always cut like glass in me, So much further than before.

This is my darkened force, That wished it could never breathe.

Just a long surviving burning wound, Only I shall ever see.

And I still haven’t managed to find, A piece of you I just don’t like.

So I’ve traveled along this rustic road, With reverent love inside.

And barricaded my heart with rocks.

By now I should have died.
