Australian Bush Tucker Bites presents Midyim Berry (Austromyrtus dulcis).
“These are the most agreeable native fruit I have tasted in Australia; They are produced so abundantly as to afford an important article of food to the Aborigines…” James Backhouse, naturalist, 1843
With more antioxidants than blueberries, as well as numerous vitamins and minerals, the Midyim Berry has been hailed as yet another Australian native superfood.
The delightfully delicate flowers are replaced by blueberry-sized berries that are white and speckled with tiny blue spots. The burst of flavour is also reminiscent of blueberries, but there’s a tinge of eucalyptus there to remind you that it’s Australian.
The plants themselves have lovely deep green leaves and coppery coloured new growth. The bushes love a good dose of sunlight and well-drained soil.
It’s the perfect feature plant that yields a delicious harvest!
