Attitude Is Everything!
Finding Your Reset Button
It All Begins with a Smile
The inscription inside my coffee cup reads “make today amazing.”
I believe that life mirrors back who we are, at any given moment. The who is a conscious choice.
Be happy and observe what is reflected back to you. Smile and what do you get in return, but a smile. Amazing how good that feels. You smile again with greater intensity and bingo an even bigger smile comes back to you.
Of course, there are exceptions, yet when you’re on a happiness roll those who aren’t sharing your enthusiasm quickly disappear into the shadows.
When Your Attitude Slips
But what happens when you’re not wrapped in the happiness of a smile? You begin to see others mirroring back the same or you become the one that disappears into the shadows. And from there, it’s easy to spiral down into what you perceive as its root cause and perhaps linger there a bit too long.
When we dwell on a problem, we can miss an array of possibilities waiting to present themselves. So, how do we climb out of the basement and make it to the rooftop to reset our perspective?
Begin Again with One Simple Belief:
Life is what we make it; action is positive traction!
When a difficult situation presents itself, see it as an invitation to explore it as an opportunity to use your creativity.
Go beyond the boundaries of the perceived problem. Imagine what the situation would be like once the problem is resolved, and then work backward or just give the problem to a higher power and sleep on it.
And be open to receiving an answer the next morning or day or whenever it decides to appear from within or perhaps from another.
I used to joke with my marketing colleagues that my reset button was a spot behind my left ear. They would laugh, but they were curious because it seemed to work time and again, despite gruelling international travel and trade show schedules.
Take the Challenge
I believe that life is good and I’m here to make it even better. A shorter version is just maintaining a positive mental attitude (PMA).
This isn’t always easy when life doesn’t seem to be serving up rewards for your hard-earned contributions at work or in relationships. But when you consistently expect the best, it’s amazing what a shift in perspective that brings about, especially as it is mirrored back to you. And when it isn’t, look for the opportunities just waiting for you to discover.
It boils down to this single question: “Would you rather hold a positive thought or a negative thought?”
A positive mindset helps us practice self-kindness and to spread goodness.
One can only have one thought at a time and a positive thought will trump a negative thought each and every time. Try it and see what happens!
AND THEN SMILE!
