Attention Readers & Writers: It’s Not Too Late to Join a Reading Challenge
Consider this my personal invitation and NOT as a New Year’s Resolution.

I refuse to get on the “It’s New Year, it’s a ‘New Me’” bandwagon. I stopped making New Year’s Resolutions long ago and I plan on keeping it that way. I will never give up carbs or wine, my Fat Girl Pants and I have an understanding, and I love my body for the way it is.
However, I do make new challenges and goals when it comes to my reading and writing.
As a writer, it is very important to read as well as write. Reading makes you more well-rounded, sparks creativity, broadens your vocabulary, and you’re supporting other writers.
Each year, I set a goal for myself of how many books I read. I started this in 2020 when my anxiety started to disrupt my life and I was having difficulty sleeping. What helped? Reading at bedtime. (This is reading an actual book and not posts on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.)
Once I discovered this new appreciation for reading, I can tell the significant difference how it helped me fall asleep faster and the quality was much better. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked and prefer a book over a sleeping pill.
✅ 2020 Goal: 5 Books Read // End Result: 7 🎉

✅ 2021 Goal: 8 Books Read // End Result: 9 🎉

🚧 2022 Goal: 9 Books Read // End Result: TBD
I’m asking Santa (aka my husband) for a subscription to Kindle Unlimited for Christmas and I already have a lot of books on my reading list! A new library is being built closer to me — and as a prior Librarian Aid — I plan on being a regular patron.
There is one month left until the end of 2021, but that does not mean that it is too late to set a goal for yourself to close out the year. Even if that means reading one book!
Below is a link to my Goodread’s Friends invitation if you’d like to keep each other in check on our progress and share reading lists. (Note: This friend link expires in 30 days. It should also point you in the direction of my author page as well. However, if it does, send me a message and tag me in the comments @crystalawalker and I’ll shoot you a new link!)
Are you participating in a reading challenge? If so, tell us in the comments how many books you have for your goal and what you are currently reading!
Happy Reading, Book Worms!
