Right out of the gate I have to say: If you ever have the chance to see them live, JUMP on that opportunity! They put on a damn good performance!!
They debuted in October 2018 and have shown through hard work and perseverance that they are a group to be paying attention to. I have been a fan of theirs since June 2021 but let me tell you, I am so thankful to have found their music. They are full of personality, talent, energy and storytelling. The group consists of 8 members (not in any particular order): Wooyoung, San, Mingi, Seong Hwa, Hong Joong, Yunho, Yeosang & Jongho. For them all being in their early 20’s, they showed professionalism and performed as though this is what they had been doing their entire lives. It felt like they had been on stage for years!
They recently had a show in Seoul and a tour in North America visiting five different cities: Chicago, Atlanta, Newark, Dallas and finishing their last show on the 31st of January at the Forum in Los Angeles.
The concert was well put together and executed! The audience was full of energy, life and excitement. I feel like the performers and the audience both were feeding off all the energy in the arena! A shared experience. It was like there was a bad seat in the house because even sitting farther back from the stage, you could see the more close up shots of the group on the three giant screens that they had above the stage following along with the concert. The staff that I interacted with from merchandise, food and beverage and security to name a few, were all pleasant and we had nice interactions.
Note: To attend the concert you had to be fully vaccinated and show proof of ID and that it matched your vaccination card. You had to be masked and they had verbal reminders of this when in the venue on many occasions.
Also, I want to mention that I hope that Jongho is feeling better because we found out that he had an injury from the night prior during the performance. He was a trooper for the closing night of the tour and did perform for a significant amount of the show and I noticed only leaving the stage a few times and even coming back on to sing during the encore. I hope he heals up quickly!
Now let’s talk about the performance itself.
Song Choice: I was unaware of what the setlist was going to be but they had a nice variety during the performance from powerhouse songs like “Hala Hala” and “Pirate King” to more emotion filled songs like “Dancing Like Butterfly Wings” and “Turbulence.” You can search the full set list online.
Effects: They pulled out all the stops for the performance. Fire, pyrotechnics, confetti, a raised platform, three large video screens, the lighting was on point, the sound filled the space perfectly!
The Singing & Stage Performance: They sound fantastic live! I think they are all talented but it was really nice to hear that they sing really well live. It seemed that they had the stamina needed to perform a three hour show. Which we all know doing anything for three hours can be a challenge let alone singing and dancing! They are full of ENERGY!!! The vibe in the whole space was infectious! They looked like they were having so much fun onstage and their dynamic between each other was so entertaining to watch! I am sure it can be hard at times to share the stage with 8 people but they make it look easy!
Language: They put in an effort to learn some English for a good portion of the speaking elements of the show. Which was just really sweet and not a requirement but it seemed important to them. They did have an interpreter for the parts that they spoke in Korean. They sang in Korean and English depending on the song and lyrics.
Tech, Crew & Behind the Scenes Employees: A huge shoutout to all the tech and crew of this concert & venue! I work as a stage manager as well and working in tech can be a thankless job at times but I just want to give you all a shoutout and say thank you for what you do and it was beautifully done! The overall production value in my opinion was top notch! Also, the view of the booth from where I was sitting was so cool to see! (With being a stage manager, I always love seeing the booth/tech area and the technical elements of a performance).
Security: Thank you so much for keeping us all safe! It is very much appreciated!!
Food/Beverage, Parking Attendants, Merchandise: Thank you for working in a professional and efficient way. I know this can be hard with so much going on! But I will say some of the parking attendants seemed like they were having a rough time… I hope their night got better as it went on.
I would see them again in a heartbeat if I have the opportunity to! If anyone from their team ever reads this article, I would love to work with you all. Just putting that out there into the world!
Don’t let the language barrier stop you from enjoying music from other countries and cultures. You are missing out on some great art that is out there to be discovered! Check out their Instagram or YouTube channel for content, music and fun interviews.
Great Job to the members of ATEEZ and your team for putting on one hell of a show and thank you for all your hard work and sharing your talents with us ATINY who love your music! For me, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed! I am so excited to see what you all do in the future and how you continue to learn and grow as performers and artists.
I had some fun painting with light the names of the members and I passed them out as freebies to fellow fans also called “Atiny.” I just wanted to share a bit of my photography and give some random fans a little gift. Overall everyone seemed to enjoy them.
