Ask Yourself This 1 Question to See if Your Product Should Be Marketed

Your junk has some value.

“I can’t sell anything.”

My grandma uttered those words to me in depression.

It all goes back to my childhood.

She had a garage sale when I was six years old. My sister and I helped her prepare. We tinkered through every inch of our cluttered garage.

After we found old nick-nacks people would buy, we placed them on a table and waited for the cars to roll by.

And we waited…waited…and waited.

Still nothing.

We didn’t even sell one item.

Heck, our neighbor next door purchased an old fan out of pity. That experience scarred my grandma forever. Now, she gives all of her junk away because she doesn’t believe she can sell anything.

But there’s one crucial mistake we made for our garage sale that she doesn’t realize.

We never marketed it.

We didn’t put up signs around the neighborhood. We didn’t promote a few weeks before. We didn’t even have a sign that said “garage sale.”

This is the main point I want to make.

Even if something seems invaluable, it’s still worth marketing.

My grandma didn’t think her junk was valuable, so she didn’t feel the need to market her garage sale.

One amazing person left me a message on Twitter.

They asked me how I know if the content I post for my audience is valuable or not.

Well…value is subjective.

One man’s junk is literally another man’s treasure.

I always ask myself this question to determine whether my content is valuable to my audience.

“Would I be the writer I am today without this?”

If the answer is no, the content is valuable and worth expanding upon. The same thing can apply to a garage sale.

“Would I have a nice yard for years if I didn’t use this old, but still working lawnmower?”

If the answer is no, market the heck out of it.

Never be ashamed to market yourself or your products.

You never know who could find it valuable.
