Ask Yourself These Five Questions to Transform Your Life
Five incredible questions that have the power to change your life.

It’s been said that the quality of our lives is in direct proportion to the quality of the questions we ask ourselves.
This isn’t to mean questions like What should I have for dinner? Should I attend this event? Should I get vaccinated? Should I have low-fat yogurt?
Dont get me wrong — these are valid questions and need to be asked including the latter about yogurt!
But what Im talking about here are five incredibly deep questions that go beyond philosophy and really get to the core of who you are.
I have nothing against philosophy but often if you know my writing and personality by now you’ll see that I am all about being practical & actionable.
Often philosophy for all its beauty and depth isn’t very practical or actionable for one’s life. Sorry to offend you if you are into philosophy.
I like things that move the needle in my needle — they give me tangible results that improve me in some way or another.
The following five questions do this for me and I know can do the same for you. I ask them now on a regular basis and encourage you to do the same.
I am certain that they can unlock a lot of things for you from getting you unstuck to even changing the trajectory of your life.
Im not just saying this to be impressive.
Im saying this from my own personal experience.
But for these questions to work, you got to work them.
That is ask them on a regular basis at least a few times a week if not more.
Remember the human mind is so cluttered with information overload these days that it takes time for answers to come.
Not to mention if you have layers of stuff ( trauma, negativity, bad habits, etc) the answers take longer to come to the surface.
Consider journaling the answers.
During self-reflection is a good time to do this.
Trust me the answers will come and the more you ask the more the answers will come and quicker too.
Ask them when your mind is most alert to reap maximum benefit.
Without further ado here are the five questions:
Question 1: What Do I Really Want?
This question has been a huge game-changer for me and I have the late Bob Proctor to thank for. Bob constantly posed this question to people and his countless students. It has given me so much clarity about what I want for my life.
But the clarity only came when I asked this question seven days a week straight for three months. Yes, you heard me — three months straight no exception. I would ask it as I went for my morning walks. My soul ended up first responding with a gentle whisper and then with a roar.
The fact of the matter is that most people dont stop and take the time to articulate what they really want and if they do then they dont allow themselves to have what they really want.
They just settle for an inauthentic life as they are afraid of either disrupting the status quo (their family and friends) or even just themselves.
Tip — What do I really want? is the type of question you never really stop asking. It’s lifelong as we change and evolve as human beings. It’s the perfect question to help you uncover your purpose which is also open to change as you change in life.
Question 2: Who Do I Need to Be?
This question ties in perfectly with the above as often your current self needs an upgrade if you’re going to go after what you really want. Im a big believer in thinking and acting like the person I want to become. There is a lot of truth to the saying “fake it till you make it” or as I like to call it “fake it till you become it.”
By faking it (aka: acting the part) you will become it. Unless your breaking the law (ie: going around telling people you’re a qualified doctor when your not) then there’s nothing wrong with this. Actors do it all the time to get into character. Be the actor of your own life, not the extra.
Question 3: What Programs in my Mind Hold Me Back?
These are the limiting stories and beliefs you tell yourself and have come to believe. As a result, it severely reduces your potential and overall capability in life. It also poses a barrier to the above two questions. You would be so much more without these programs not to mention how freer you would be.
These programs originate deep in your subconscious mind which runs them over and over again. It happens automatically on autopilot. Meditation and simply mindfulness aren’t going to get rid of them.
Sorry to burst your bubble!
What gets rid of them is the constant reprogramming of your subconscious mind and this is done through constant repetition of empowering ideas ( a combination of inspiring audio, books, and autosuggestion done daily as a practice) that overrides your old programming.
Through this, your old programming dies due to a lack of nourishment. I should know as I reprogrammed my mind for my success and abundance by doing the above.
I will write a more in-depth article at some stage to explain the exact steps I took to do it.
But for now, ask the question and become aware of the programs holding you back in your life. Know you can override these programs and create new ones that empower you.
Question 4: What’s Something that Will Stretch Me Beyond Anything I’ve Ever Done?
Life is constantly asking us to grow and expand so we need to stretch. It’s the ultimate mental gymnastics.
The problem is the comfort zone that’s part of old mental conditioning that reels its ugly head and does all it can to stop you from stretching in life.
This is how people stay mediocre and average year after year. Not a good place to be!
In order to truly grow in life, you need to expand your horizons and do things that make you smash through your glass ceiling. This is where the magic lies and makes life an incredible adventure, not a dull trip.
But realize you will hit the fear barrier or the terror barrier as Bob Proctor calls it once you go to stretch and do something you’ve never done before.
This is your old negative programming wanting to keep you exactly where you are. It’s what playing it safe is all about. But you must not give in to it.
You must “face the fear” as the saying goes and do what needs to be done.
Once you do this you’ll get more confident and the next time you go to stretch you’ll encounter fear but will be much more adept at dealing with it.
Question 5: What’s The One Thing I Can Do Today to Move the Needle in my Life?
One of my top three favorite books of all time — The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results inspired me to ask this question.
I ask it daily seven days a week without exception. It works like a charm in cutting through the noise and helping me see what the main thing is for my day.
No matter how many things I may have on any given day there will always be ONE thing that matters more than the others and makes the difference.
This could be spending time with a loved one, taking that extra-long walk, setting time aside for an idea I’ve had for a while, etc, etc.
It all comes back to the ONE thing, not 10 things or 20 things.
What’s the One thing for you today, this week, this month?
Recap
I guarantee you that if you start asking yourself these five questions on a regular basis you’ll start getting answers that come from a deeper part of yourself that many call the authentic self, the soul, etc.
This is the part of you that knows who you are meant to be in life and what you are meant to do.
To recap here are the five questions:
- What do I really want?
- Who do I need to be?
- What programs in my mind hold me back?
- What’s something that will stretch me beyond anything I've ever done?
- What’s the one thing I can do today that will move the needle in my life?
Asking these questions and then applying the answers you get can truly change the whole trajectory of your life.
They are that powerful!
So ask away and act on the answers.
