Ask For What You Want
And be ready to pay for what you get
In life we dream, visualize, work for things, experiences we desire in our lives. But rarely are we fully aware of which price comes associated with that new desired outcome.
When one dreams for example about obtaining a given diploma/degree etc, are we aware that obtaining that is only a little step towards a new totally unknown era?
I remember when I got my masters, I was the happiest and felt so relieved. Back then, I felt as if I had done the “hardest” and that the rest could only be brilliant and flow easily. Hahah. That was before I came into the job market in 2014. I got hit by a reality that was way different than what I had imagined in my mind and plans.
I had freshly moved to a new country, all energized. I had to learn the language and apply for jobs all over the place.
Believe me (or not) that wasn’t easy peasy. I remember I had (still have) a follow up sheet of the applications I sent. In total I reached about 300 job applications before I could get a qualified job in Norway. Meanwhile I had been working in all types of jobs: from aupair, babysitting to sales — jobs which did not require any qualification.
At that moment I realized that obtaining my degree was just the beginning. But back when I was still going at the uni I was praying and working hard just to get the degree and be ready, armed for the world. Well, I can tell you that at this date (6 years after), the world is still a mystery at some extend and each day I learn new things, get new insights. I came to realize that the world, life in general is a never ending learning field.
Reading «The Heart of a woman»/Maya Angelou I came across this sentence: «ask for what you want and be prepared to pay the price of what you get». It made me reflect. I thought about the times I wished and worked for something only to realize that the result was just the beginning, most of the work being yet to come.
How about you dear reader? Any experience you can think about: when you wished for something only to realize that the accomplishment of that involved further non considered «investment»?
Let me know in comment section. Happy to read and discover common or diverse perspectives.
And until next time, take good care of yourself, you are your first most important priority.
One love ✨💜
